Petra - Back To The Street
I've found myself coming back to this album alot lately this year. I grew tired of alot of their albums after playing them so much in my "Petrafied" years as a kid, but I still like this one after all these years. I also think its one of their more overlooked albums in their catalog...I mean the only song that ever made their rock compilations was "Shakin' The House"...some of the new Definitive Collections only pull "Thankful Heart" from this album. Ok, Schlitt's voice is obviously not as strong as it would be, and the production is strange, the guitars sound very muted for whatever reason and the keyboards dominate it a little more, still I think all of the songs are strong.

I have this album, and it's solid. I feel good when I'm listening to it.

My favorite from the Schlitt era. Man, we got two stellar "Petra" offerings that year, this one and "The River is Rising". that was awesome!

Agreed!

I like it too, but not as well as This Means War through Wake Up Call. I usually pull it out when I'm in the mood for something different from the Schlitt era.
I haven't listened to The River Is Rising in years. I'll have to pull it out soon (and see if the tape still works).

You are aware this was Schlitt's first "Christian" album, right? And he was a singing a slightly different kind of music from his Head East days? Cut him some slack.pathogenics_cloned_twin83 wrote:I've found myself coming back to this album alot lately this year. Yeah I am aware of that, and I know he was somewhat rusty. I wasn't dissing him him or anything, I was just listing what may or may not have been some of the "cons" people had for maybe not liking the album.
I haven't listened to any of his Head East stuff yet, I see that album Flat As A Pancake occasionally. One of these days I'll get around to giving them a listen.

I played the heck out of this album quite a bit in years past. There are definitely some stand out cuts on this album. It highly deserves a good remix/remaster.

So what if it was his first "Christian lp?" He was a seasoned vocalist by then and he sounded great!
