Johnny Cash
I thought the Man In Black needed his own thread here.
We've talked about "labels" in other threads here, and here is an artist that broke down many labels....including the "Christian" label.

Re: Johnny Cash
It's interesting to note, even though Cash broke down many "labels", that he stayed true to his Christian faith.

Re: Johnny Cash
He is legend in every genre really
Metal and rock will never be the same thanks to him
He is the only non metal artist I own truthfully
His stuff kicks butt any day over almost anyone

That's true...
His stuff does "kick butt", and that makes him "metal"

This makes him more metal
You can't make Cash more "metal" than he already is.

Re: Johnny Cash
I own 20 or so of his albums....everything up to like 1965, then silver from 79 and Johnny 99 from 89. I have all the releases on American recordings, too.

Re: Johnny Cash
Has anyone seen the 1961 film Five Minutes To Live?
Johnny Cash has had several different acting roles in various films.
This is his first.
(Opie Cunningham is in this film too )

Re: Johnny Cash
I personally don't see that he has contributed too much directly to metal in general.

Re: Johnny Cash
I usually listen to either Live at Folsom Prison or Live at San Quentin. So much energy in the air and on the stage.

Re: Johnny Cash
Many of, if not all of, his EARLY records are being reissued on vinyl in 180 gram limited editions And I have found most of them at half price books still sealed for $15 and they all come with a digital download as well. I have only got "The Fabulous Johnny Cash" but they also have virtually every one of his early records from the 50's and 60's
I love Johnny Cash, he had a HUGH bought for MANY years with drugs but once He straightened that out he was very much true to his faith for the remainder of his life.

Re: Johnny Cash
He never really got over the drugs..at least not as early as people think. He went into rehab in 1983, 1989, and the last time was in 1992. I think he only did one or two albums while sober before starting the American Recordings series...

Re: Johnny Cash
He also wrote a novel about Paul from the Bible.
I have this book, but I never finished it earlier. I need to find it and finish it.

Re: Johnny Cash
I read an interview with Rick Rubin on Johnny Cash and they asked him how often he thinks of him. And Rubin answered something of the likes of "every time I take communion" (since he and Cash used to take communion together in the studio), which is odd since Rubin is a Jew and an occultist.

YIKES!
Johnny Cash didn't write Ring of Fire...his wife, June Carter Cash, did.
I think I prefer the version that was done by her husband, Johnny Cash.

Re: Johnny Cash
Here is a song that Johnny Cash wrote.
This is Willie Nelson's reggae version with "Toots" Hibbert from Toots and the Maytals.
And the version from the man in black.

I will add 'When the Man Comes Around' as being about the end of the world. Some quotes from Revelation.
