Chevy MyLink Empty Chevy MyLink

Post by Blake Wed Feb 04, 2015 4:17 pm

Anyone own a newer Chevrolet with the MyLink Media system?

I bought a 2014 Chevy Sonic LTZ Turbo in December and I was excited to finally be able to use USB for my music rather than CDs. Well I am having an odd issue where its only showing me 101 artists and 2500 songs regardless of how much I have stored. Not sure if the MyLink has a limitation on how much it can discover or what.

I did read somewhere that cleaning up ID3 tags might help, such as blanking out everything but title, artist, album and genre. But thats going to be a long and arduous task, wondering if anyone else uses this

Thanks for that link. Drive is FAT32, but hat thread gives me some ideas. I've planned on eventually buying a external USB solidstate hard drive, looks like I will need to do some creative formatting and test it out

No, I don't own one.

I use this to bulk edit ID3tags

Well I found out today with more research what the problem is. Apparently the MyLink can only detect a max of the first 2500 songs. So I am going to buy a non-powered USB Hub switcher and separate flash drives by genre and see if that works.

Something like this:

That seems a bit tedious. Does it have the same 2500 limit if you plug in an ipod?

So obviously the MyLink is gimped for indexing so the idea would be to use a device like the ipod to do the indexing. What you would need then is a device whose index can be ready by the MyLink. If you are going to invest close to $30 in a USB switch, then think about putting that money toward a mp3 player. How many music files do you have? Total GB's?

Looks like i have around 82GB of mp3s. My wife has a small ipod, so I did some checking and apparently using ipod via usb still has a 2500 limit, not sure on using the aux jack, but i think the aux jack might just force me to use the ipod gui rather than the screen.

At this point I am purely curious if the switch will work so i may try it anyways if anything just to satisfy my curiousity and I love a good tech experiment

I can't believe how lame that MyLink is. What year is it again? You should complain to GM. Who knows, maybe they'll update the code.

Estimating 4MB per song it looks like you need just over 8 USB sticks.

There's gotta to be a way for a man to carry his massive music collection on the go than that...

This makes me wonder if my USB might do the same. I always just use Bluetooth and my phone's mp3.  It can hold 64GB. I've never used the USB for anything but a charger.

I agree, I was excited to finally get a USB port for the car, its a 2014. Aside from this flaw the system is surprisingly good and gui isnt all that bad either. I ordered a 4 port usb switch, (non-powered, which is important) as well as 4 16gb flash drives. Nice thing about this switch is that you can turn each port on/off so we will see how this works. Supposedly doesnt need drivers, so hopefully there is no detection problems.

The phrase "USB switch" sounds weird for me to say, because I'm used to dealing with real switches. I'll let you guys know how this works, should be interesting

If you can engage more than port simultaneously then it sounds like a switched/interruptible hub and might not be supported. I'm truly curious to learn about how it works out for you. People do network with USB, you know? Although I've never heard of a USB switch like a what you are talking about. Wink
