Worship Music that Rocks (not CCM/Hillsong)
Hey guys and gals. I've been on a search lately for music that we could play as part of our worship service that is more Rock than Pop...So far the only songs that are sort of close to this that we have in our rotation are:
"Christ in Me" - School of Worship
"Evermore" - School of Worship (which is really a cover of a Hillsong United song)
"Limitless" - Planetshakers
"You Are My Joy" - Flyleaf (cover of the Crowder song)
I want us to do some of the songs by Worth Dying For, like "Higher" and things in that vein. We have done a few songs that we've tried to rock them a little harder than originally done, which is what everyone always suggests...
I just find it hard to believe that Worth Dying For (if they are even still around) are the only Rock-based Worship band with a contract.
Thanks in advance ladies and gents!

Not sure if this one could be toned down just a bit for a corporate worship service but I think it would be amazing on Sunday morning depending on the comfort level with those you are leading in worship.

All fear, all pain, all hurt, all grief, all lies, must bow to Jesus' Name.
All kings, all thrones, everything that breathes life, must bow to Jesus' Name.
The Earth, the sea, the sun, the stars, the sky, must bow to Jesus' Name.
The Earth, the sea, the sun, the stars, the sky, must bow to Jesus' Name.
Hallelujah

Kings, crowns, thrones: bow down!
Fall face down: bow down!
Kiss the ground: bow down!

Um...the big cheese themselves Hillsong United has some pretty hard-rocking songs. "Yours Forever" in particular sounds like it was a NWOBHM song

I also like Ryan Stubbs' "Take a Deep Breath" from his release Waking Cardinal (even though it's more ethereal than rock)

Seeing that most rock based worship bands were rather shallow lyrically and add the fact that most teens that these bands are marketed to don't buy their music, that shouldn't seem so odd. Why keep signing projects that don't sell? The CCM labels know they can pitch Chris Tomlin and Crowder to the middle age parents and sell it. Getting kids to buy music of any sort is difficult even if it good.
Re: Worship Music that Rocks (not CCM/Hillsong)
My Epic did an amazing job praising our Lord and Savior on "Hail" which can be found on their album Behold. The whole album is really praise and worship.
Lyrics:
Up from the deep, and from the furthest unseen reach,
a call is sounding forth sustained and deafening.
I cannot breathe, I choke to raise my voice and sing
no words remain instead I bow my head and weep.
Speak no more.
The terror and beauty, You echo into me;
all things are just words You chose to speak.
What You sing is flawless but I ring back discordant,
I'm a ruined wasted melody.
Sing no more.
Your words destroying everything;
the earth collapses under me.
How could I stand against Your voice?
Empty throat, all I make is noise.
Silence falls over me,
in that void You speak
one final word, "mercy."
Weep no more.
Majesty, Worship Your Majesty
Jesus who died, now glorified, King of all Kings
Majesty, kingdom authority
Flows from Your Throne unto Your own, Your anthem raise
Your anthem raise
King of all Kings
King of all...
All Hail!

"difficult even if it good" [2] I'd have to agree wholeheartedly. Keep looking for good stuff for your own personal worship time, but don't expect anything really fantastic to reach mainstream status. Middle of the road worship music is gonna stay the standard. Makes sense since we do want everyone to encounter God through worship...it just means we serious music fans need to stuff our preferences and worship with whatever we've got

Hands' "Creator" off their Creator album fits the bill for sure. It would make a good end to the worship service.
Lyrics:
Sovereign and holy, Creator.
Raining with mercy, Creator.
Reveal Your glory, Creator.
Show us Your nature, Creator.
You’re holy. You’re holy...
Sovereign and holy, Creator.
Raining with mercy, Creator.
Reveal Your glory, Creator.
Show us Your nature, Creator...
Lord You are, holy, glory.
Sovereign and holy, Creator.
Raining with mercy, Creator.
Reveal Your glory, Creator.
Show us Your nature, Creator.
Lord You are, holy, glory.
Lord You are, holy, glory.

This one for sure could be sung with clean vocals and toned down just a bit:

Re: Worship Music that Rocks (not CCM/Hillsong)
The last two or three Seventh Day Slumber albums have been much more in the worship vein than their early stuff.

Just Rain. You might like some of this… One of their vocalists Tom Denlinger Of Sardonyx. To me,Sardonyx has some great worship stuff even off of their majestic serenity album… Psalm 62, is one of their songs. Their EP, Linear Progressions. Has 4 fantastic worship songs

Re: Worship Music that Rocks (not CCM/Hillsong)
The Sardonyx song is Royal Honor, based on Psalm 62. Here is a live low-quality version, but it is on their majestic serenity album

as an aside, they were a great live band, I Kid you not… And I found all of their music worshipful. I saw them 3 times At least
