Xbox Live
Anyone know if it is back up and running since the hack? My son got an Xbox360 for Christmas and we can't get a profile created....

Re: Xbox Live
I believe its back up. we were using netflix on XBL yesterday evening but Xbox Video was pretty slow. I wouldnt call it a hack though, just a few kids using a botnet to DDoS. I got a good laugh at their prior announcement. The "Lizard Squad" (the kids doing it) stated on Christmas they would permanently shut down XBL. If they think a DDoS can permanently shut down a service without being caught that just shows how much of novices they really are.
Re: Xbox Live
All I know is we couldn't set up a new account last night and we keep getting error messages when my son tries to register the free games on the console.

Re: Xbox Live
I recently read an article where they supposedly interviewed one of the kids behind the attack and they said they attacked Xbox Live to raise awareness, and to show that they need to increase their security to protect against this happening. Then in another part they said they did it for fun. Just doing it to look cool probably. I'm sure everyone will eat up the security thing they through out there but to be realistic no amount of network security could prevent your network from being flooded with traffic (ddos). I think the only way a company could "protect" themselves from a DDoS is to simply disconnect from the internet which would also consequently prevent customers from accessing.
The people who try to raise awareness about security are usually the ones who either exploit vulnerabilities such as the recent SSL3 Poodle discovery, or access credit card info to prove that it could in theory be stolen by a real criminal.
No matter what these guys say, they are not raising awareness, they are just as they say in it "for the lolz"
