Identifying Metal Genres Using Living Sacrifice as the Example
I'm still struggling sometimes to genre a band (can I use genre as a verb?!). So can you help me out? I'm going to designate each album and give the reasons why. Then you can correct me or just genre the albums with explanation.
S/T: Thrash. Riff-based, fast tempos.
Nonexistent: Death. Super heavy sound, slower tempos, unintelligible atmospheric vocals, guitar solos almost atmospheric.
Inhabit: Death. Super heavy sound, slower tempos, heavy guitars but not intricate or fast riffing.
Reborn: Deathcore or Grindcore. Same heavy music as Inhabit but more modern and closer to hardcore, no solos.

I think Reborn is just heavy metalcore, but other than that you're right

I don't think they ever played deathcore or grindcore.
They played whatever it is that Machine Head plays.

To me Reborn and on was something entirely new to Christian music. I know I seem to be the only one but I dont find them to be MetalCore at all. Ive always compared Rebon and later to a mix of Sepultura Chaos A.D and Soulfy mixed with Machine Head.Groove/Death/Thrash with this creative Tribal like drumming.

I get it. I was listening to Tooth & Nail--and then Solid State--in the mid '90s and was living the transition from traditional metal genres to all these new, modern styles. I didn't really like it; I wanted more of LS, Vengeance, Sacrament, Bloodgood, etc. But it was what it was: Training for Utopia, Embodyment, Strongarm, Blindside, Zao. It became much more difficult to genre them, b/c they were pulling from so many styles and creating new ones.

So...I looked up what grindcore is. Yes, Reborn is NOTHING like that!
So this is a side question. What in the world does Morty's Grind Planetarium mean?

Speaking of Living Sacrifice….i know they play the occasional show, but will they ever record again? I’d love a final album with Bruce and DJ both singing/screaming

I'm not really up-to-date on LS, but I did watch a video of them last summer and DJ sang for Haven of Blasphemy and maybe 1 or 2 other songs. But that's not the same thing as recording an album with them.

On a recent podcast interview with DJ the last few months, he mentioned that they might have new music coming out at some point. With him included.

Do you happen to have a link to that interview? I'm interested.

And I was wrong, it wasn't from a few months ago. That's just when I heard it. It's actually from a year ago, so who knows if it's still valid info since they did Furnace Fest.

They changed too many times… might as well make it simple and just label them “metal”.
