Motley Crue - Dogs Of War (new song)

So, now the stadium reunion tour is over, and Mick has been replaced with John 5, the Crue is back with a new song that is getting highly negative thoughts from fans.  I have listened a couple of times and have mixed feelings of it.  It is more modern sounding than I really wanted from the Crue, but I also get wanting to get a new generation into their music.  People are saying that it sounds like this because Mick is gone, but Mick's solo album is in the same vein.

Is this song really as bad as people are saying, or are they just overly critical because it doesn't sound like their first 5 albums?

I like it overall, but the main riff is forgettable at best.  The rest sounds like the new songs from "The Dirt" soundtrack to me.

What do you think?  

The song is okay if a bit generic.  I don't have a problem with bands using different sounds and styles.  
But I wouldn't feel compelled to listen to this one again.

Count me among the haters. Bands can update their sound while staying true to their style. Stryper has done it. Ratt did it. Skid Row did it. Winger did it. 

This new Crue tune sucks…big time.

Underwhelming…

Mick Mars isn’t a shredder like John 5, but he was the perfect fit for MC. 

On a related note, Mick’s solo album actually sounds pretty good!

I like it better than I thought I would. The chorus is catchy.

Mick has always had great guitar tones. 

He has a handful of iconic riffs. 

In my opinion, a good riff is a lot better than fancy soloing. I think John 5 is creative and talented… but he’s just a shredder version of Tom Morello. 

I can’t even think of one memorable riff ever written by J5. Although Tom Morello has some.

I listened to a few of the Mick Mars tracks and thought they were pretty decent (but certainly didn't like them enough to get the album).

This however, sounds perfectly horrible.  I don't think I ever would have guessed this was Motley Crue.  If the rest of the album sounds anything like this I would never buy it.  Heck, I wouldn't even take a copy of it for free.
This makes "New Tattoo" sound like a masterpiece (which it certainly isn't).

Heard this song on the radio, and it was terrible. Never been too big a fan of Motley Crue to begin with, but their classic songs were miles better than this generic sounding garbage

The music isn’t terrible (Tommy Lee has a nice sound), but Vince sounds weak! His voice is shot.

Overall, it’s a forgettable song. 

I know Nikki Sixx has lost his touch to write good songs. Sixx A.M. is awful too! They are worse than Audioslave. Boring!!!

I don't care for Mick's solo album.  To me, it sounds just like this song--generic modern rock/metal.  I didn't like the new Crue song at first, but it is growing on me.

It’s not saying much… but I think overall the Mick Mars solo album is better than the new Crue song (and their presumed musical direction). At least Mick’s guitar sound is heavy!

I’ll wait to see what the rest of the new Crue songs sound like… but I know Vince’s voice is going to ruin it.
