Favorite King’s X Album?
I don’t think we’ve actually done this yet. If we have, oh well, we can do it again!
I’m going with Gretchen. It wasn’t my first King’s X, but it’s the one that made me a fan. Just a great album beginning to end.
I’d put Out of the Silent Planet just below it, and probably Dogman after that.
Y’all?

Gretchen but Dogman is close, really tapped into the groove on it.

Dogman is probably my fav.
I also actually really like Please Come Home...Mr. Bulbous.
They do not have a bad album.

s/t - no weak songs. The World Around Me is one the greatest songs ever made.
The most high highs is on Faith, Hope, Love but it is inconsistent.
No doubt can't go wrong with Gretchen, but it is self-titled for me.
Dogman has a great first half peaking out with Pretend and Fool You, but it ends with a weak Hendrix cover and aside from Pillow, side 2 stinks.

FHL is the early album that kinda frustrates me. Like you said, it’s inconsistent.

Other than Mister Wilson I think all the songs are good.

Dogman has always been my favorite and likely always will be.
Gretchen and self-titled would be next.

I like Mister Wilson for the most part, its Six Broken Soldiers where it loses me. The title track gets beyond long in the tooth.Black Rider wrote:Other than Mister Wilson I think all the songs are good.

Re: Favorite King’s X Album?
I don't understand how FHL is inconsistent...what does that even mean... It's a masterpiece.
Anyway...
King's X are a very special band for me and for so many reasons I could write a book about it. Everything about this band speaks to me on so many levels and there is a mirror and reflection in this band I can see myself in and relate to on many levels.
Anyhoo I could pick any King's X album as my favorite on any given day but for reasons that it was the first album that introduced me to this beautiful band that most people will never ever know about, i have to go with the eponymous, S/T, number four record, Kings'x.
I almost feel like I was one of the chosen ones that had the privilege of knowing this band existed.

King’s X - s/t
This was the album I discovered them on. But I’ll take any of their albums from the first all the way up to Tape Head.

Re: Favorite King’s X Album?
It's not that I think FHL is a weak album - there's just too many ups and downs to consider it a classic. The repetitiveness of some songs like "I never Get Tired of You" which is mostly a good song, but I get 'tired' of the chorus or the zillion times Doug says "YOUUUUUUU" on Moanjam just makes it a chore. If you cut out the fat and Six Broken Soldiers, you might get a classic. Heck, Guitar World magazine gave it a measly 2 1/2 stars out of 5! I give it 4 1/2.
P.S. There's some wicked riffs on Mr. Wilson that I would think would redeem it from the weird stuff like "I'm going to Ja-pah-aaan" for a metal head.
