Ideal subgenre
For me, it would be
1) complex violin/cello sections
2) thrashy but melodic riffs
3) intense, fast, gruff vocals
4) powerful, clean vocals with good melodic hooks
5) thought-provoking emotional lyrics
Now we can know what to recommend each other lol

Melodic thrash with awesome theological lyrics. Perfection.

Riffy, fast black metal with some atmosphere. Occasionally slows down. Catchy riffs and thoroughly Reformed lyrics. Industrial influence in the outro of the last track to leave a dark and mysterious vibe.

Re: Ideal subgenre
My ideal metal song would probably be some sort of fast melodic thrash, with catchy choruses like Theocracy, that had an ending part where it got dramatically slow and heavy (like the ending of Biogenesis’s Tears of God). The song would be long too, ideally 10+ minutes, have a complex structure, and tell a story

Re: Ideal subgenre
Well I guess my REAL ideal metal song would be basically Mirror of Souls 2, but I’m accepting of the fact that I will probably never hear any other song on the level of MoS. It is in a class of its own. The closest I’ve heard to what I described in the previous post, although not exact, is Adorned Graves’ Valley of Achor

For me it'd be emotive, introspective, powerful, and experimental doom/death metal with lots of clean vocals and acoustic guitars mixed in. I like biblical lyrics looking to glorify God and encourage the believer.

One band that fits perfectly with that description is The Crucified, especially their self-titled.Raegoul wrote:The Crucified s/t

There's no barf emoji here so these will have to do.
(In case Michael Sweet or the *other* Kerry King sees this... the barf is to be directed at Bethel. If the Bethel people see this... well, repent! )
