Opeth
While I wouldn't call myself a huge fan, I do own a fair number of their albums from different periods in their career. Of the ones I have, I really dig Morningrise and My Arms Your Hearse. What does everyone think of this band?

Re: Opeth
I like them quite a bit.
Akerfeldt had the best death vocals ever between 1999 and 2005 or so.
I haven't heard anything recent though. The last one I bought was Heritage.
My favorite album(s) by them are the Deliverance/Damnation set.

The most recent one I've heard is Pale Communion. They do the prog sound well, but I like the older blend of brutality and beauty that was so well done in their older albums.

I just know them because whenever I look up "Deliverance songs ranked" I see rankings of songs from their album Deliverance.

Re: Opeth
I could never get into them but I probably tried with the wrong albums.
Maybe one day I'll give them another shot....

Re: Opeth
Deliverance was my first Metal album 20 years ago. I heard "Master's Apprentices" and was blown away. I hadn't imagined anything that heavy. My friend played some drums and his jaw dropped hearing blastbeats. We got to hear them play that song live at a stop on the "Lamentations Over America" tour in 2004. That album will always be special to me.
Everything from Orchid through Ghost Reveries is great and my ranking is probably always going to change. I really enjoy the Morningrise-MAYH period when they brought their old sound to fruition and inaugurated the new one. Still Life is a pretty complete statement of that sound.
I started to move away from Metal before Watershed dropped and since I've returned I've never gone and listened to it. I probably will soon. I might even listen to some of the stuff after that, but I don't know that I'll like it. The Akerfeldt-Lindgren-Lopez-Mendez line-up was magic. I think when Lindgren left, Mikael got too pretentious and it saddens me that he thinks he's too cool to play Metal now.
