Caged Bird
(Kerrick, if you think this belongs in Promotion Palace, then by all means move it there)
This thread is for discussing my new single, Caged Bird. You can find it on Bandlab under the artist name "Streets of Gold". Just know that it is prett unproffesional and doesn't always flow the best, especially in the first half.

It's a cover of the Maya Angelou poem, used this as a way to get used to making music this way, you can hear me get better with the instruments as the song goes on lol

I think it has potential. Primary suggestions would be to work on improving your vocals and mixing of instrumental parts, and use real guitars, bass, drums, etc (I could be wrong but to me it sounded like you were using a keyboard for most of the instrumentals?). I can definitely see it becoming a really great song as you get more experience

Re: Caged Bird
Yeah, it was all on the Bandlab virtual instruments because I'm cheap. It definitely kept certain parts from actually sounding that heavy though. And yeah, the vocals and instrumental mixing definitely need some work. Were there any parts that stood out, for better or worse? I think my favorite was those two riffs for the second part of the first verse, and the violin solo. The worst part imo was the beginning because that's where the mixing was worst, and several times when the vocals didn't sync that well (also didn't think the death part sounded that deathy, it sounded like someone trying to sing death metal and failing.) I agree though, I see a lot of potential.seth wrote:I think it has potential. Re: Caged Bird
Btw, what subgenre would you guys consider it to be (aside from symphonic obviously)

Once I'm done with my album I'll do a re-recording of this to bring it closer to full potential

Re: Caged Bird
Finished the final version. It's not great but I'm just going to move on to my album for now, I'm happy enough with this. It's on YouTube now so it's easier to find

I learned how to mix by watching all the Youtube videos of The Recording Revolution. The owner, Graham Cochrane, is a Christian as well. He's got nearly 100 five minute videos as well as a bunch of others. I'd recommend you do the same; they're enjoyable to watch and very educational.
