Crossfit Empty Crossfit

Post by Guest Tue Jun 19, 2012 6:45 am

Anyone tried it? I want to try it but all the gyms in my area that do crossfit want to charge $50 a week for a membership, which is crazy considering my current gym charges $17 a week. Is it possible to do the crossfit workout in a regular gym?

Yes you can do a crossfit workout in a regular gym, however much of the appeal to crossfit is the camaraderie and teamwork of its workouts. Crossfit is expensive, and it has benefits and drawbacks. I don't think anyone gets truly strong from doing strictly crossfit. I also don't think it makes anyone an endurance maven either (i've been with crossfitters who do only crossfit running 25K running trail races but it nearly kills them). What I do notice from crossfit is an increase in my lactic acid threshold, very noticable when starting to play hockey again after some time off. I can sprint harder for longer earlier in the season than before doing crossfit. But I think that a person needs more than crossfit to be a well rounded athlete. You need true strength, and endurance, and crossfit is a means but not a necessity to get a little of both but strictly crossfit won't help you excel at either.

Spitshock has a point the reason you pay so much for CF is the atmosphere also the gym pays an enormous amount of money to use the CF name etc. You can certainly do their WODS at your own Gym. Or you can find another gym that does the same type of training without calling it CF. CF teaches you really good form which is great because I see so many people using free weights like a village idiot
