Surprised to see Raise the Chalice. Always liked that song. I find it quite chill, if that's possible for death metal. Think the drumming has a lot to do with that. But of course, that trio of sound was a short lived spark of magic. I like your list!MagnusPrime wrote:In no particular order:

2. Death Requiem (probably unusualy to be this high, I don't know, I just stinkin' love this song)
3. Dark Allusions
4. Ancient Prophecy
5. Vital Fluids
6. Satans' Doom
7. Symbiosis
8. Monks of the High Lord
9. Journey of Reconciliation
10. Necromanicide
Looking at the list, it's pretty clear why my enjoyment of the band dropped off when it did. Top three (plus Symbiosis) are all credited as music written by Mick, another 4 written by Jayson, only 2 from Steve. Of course he wrote some others that I like which just didn't make the list, but it's interested to me to see how even though he was the face of the band, it was Jayson and Mick's influences that really pulled me in the tightest.

I was thinking the same, haha. I just realized this will be harder than I thought. They gotta lotta great stuff. But most of mine will come from the earlier works... I think. Going to give the later stuff a good go though.Raegoul wrote:Can we make it twenty so I can pack in the first two albums and be done with it?
For example, Quite like Northern storm, Razor back is pretty good too. And there are others which names I can't remember.

Re: Mortification top ten songs
Love Death Requiem. And that narration, that voice is deliciously evil even if it's not actual evil- if ya get me. Necromanicide too. mind, Scrolls is my favorite death metal album bar none. And yeah, those three guys were magic together. It was just the right combination. Also, Mick is a very underrated guitarist. Think it's quite funny too, he didn't care about leads, I mean for a guy in a death metal band... Another great list. Monks of the high lord looks like it might be in the top ten general list.Grindboy wrote:1. From the Valley of the Shadows

You should do a cover of it with ToB. Work on your growls!

Butchered Mutilation: I forgot about this one. When this track came out, I remember thinking how it sounds like nothing else they've ever done. Sounds like a completely different band. In fact, it could've been a missing track from a real early Cannibal corpse album, and funnily enough, the particular album i thought of was Butchered at birth. But also could've been from the eaten back to life. I'm thinking they trying their hand at the cannibal corpse sound. I'm glad they went with the smoke and ash sound of Scrolls, which is all their own sound, absolutely! Still a good track though.scottmitchell74 wrote:There's no possible way this is correct without doing some listening:

If I recall correctly, Butchered Mutilation was an outtake from the PMA album.

Re: Mortification top ten songs
You're probably right. My brain is very foggy on all of this. I seem to recall it being on the Break the curse 1990 version, or maybe it was the later version... I should look it up. I know they added to the reissue of PMA so that suggests maybe it was an outtake from that album. Really strange. To me it would've felt quite strange had it been released on that album. had a listen to it after not hearing for years. It's still goes for the throat! What a vicious piece of a killer death metal track that is.MagnusPrime wrote:Dustofyears wrote:Butchered Mutilation: I forgot about this one. I think it was tacked onto the 1994 re-issue of Break The Curse as a bonus track.
Musically it would have worked better on Scrolls, but you can tell by the production/mix that it was most likely recorded during the PMA sessions. It's a cool song!

Maybe live. But I don't like to record covers that I don't think can be improved. I kinda hate it when bands do that.
