Evans and Stokes
Who else loves this duo? They’re a recent discovery for me, but the two albums I’ve heard (Children of God and Diary of the Damned) are killer.
Any other fans?

They were a busy duo cranking out albums until Jan of 2021 when John and his wife got sick with covid. I'm not sure if his wife survived. All of those posts have been removed from their FB about prayers for her health.
More recently, John Evans has teamed up with Dale Thompson for a couple albums.
Jenny Stokes is still lyric writing the last I heard.

John's wife did survive (praise God). He is currently working on songs here and there with different singers. I suspect he might be working up enough songs to release an albums worth of tunes under just his name (John Evans).
The first track (Take me to Your Leader) features Jenny Stokes so it does sound a lot like an Evans & Stokes song. The second track he released features a different vocalist. I really dig his guitar tone.

Yessir…I've been following them since Children of God, then went back and picked up their earlier cd’s. Their latest…Diary of The Damned is great.Pethead wrote:Who else loves this duo? Is it Jenny that sings most of the time? I love the vox but could not make a determination on the gender of the singer.

Yes, it’s Jenny.Sevenoneself wrote:Is it Jenny that sings most of the time? I love the vox but could not make a determination on the gender of the singer.

A couple of years ago, I told both of them that Jenny's voice reminded me of the voice in the band Towne Cryer

Re: Evans and Stokes
Hi there! So cool to read this thread. Thank you all for the support over the years and especially for the many prayers when my wife was sick with covid. She did spend 71 days in 4 different hospitals with 24 of those days on a ventilator, but by the grace of God she did survive.
A few updates if anyone is interested...I have been a bit all over the place musically this past year releasing several singles and working with many different singer. Really fun doing that stuff. This website basically links to all that I have done musically in my career.

But right now I'm working on something a little different. The new project is a Southern Rock style EP where I've teamed up with singer Christian Erik to deliver a 6 song EP that is a cross between ACDC, Blackberry Smoke, Black Label Society...stuff like that. The band name is Jackstrawed.
With song titles like 'Evil in My Way', 'Hell or High Water', We All Die in the End', 'There Will Be Blood', 'As the Crow Flies', and 'Memories of the Ones We've Lost'...it might sound like a dark record, but I think it shaping up to be a mini concept album that centers on being a good person, making the most of your life, etc.
Here is a sample of 'There Will Be Blood'. No vocals on this short little instrumental track but you'll get the vibe of the record and guitar tones. Hope you'll all give it a listen when it comes out! (probably in another month or so)

I'll definitely do a CD on this one. It's coming along really nicely so far. As an EP w/ only 6 or so songs then I'd probably thrown in some other stuff onto the CD. Maybe a few covers. Still thinking about it.

Thanks!!
BTW This is the guy I have singing on the new record. His name is Christian Erik. He's a pro. I recorded this song with him a while back. He has a great 'Chris Stapleton' style voice. This song we did together was a tribute about my cousin who died in Iraq.

I never heard of them until you mentioned them in another thread. Whoa! These guys are amazing! Some of the best stuff I've heard in years. I hope they keep recording together. Is there a Facebook page or website anywhere? Everything I can find is a dead link.Pethead wrote:Who else loves this duo? The one in that first video looks like the girl from "The Ring", or Skot from Leper!
