Sure, but overall the album is ballad heavy.

I guess it depends on what you classify as a ballad. For me, there are only two real ballads: I Believe in You and Lonely. Same as THwtD, except IGWT’s ballads are better.

I just now noticed this. I’m stunned.Sevenoneself wrote:My list is greatly influenced by the chronological order in which I heard the albums:
1) Against the Law. Best music, weakest lyrics (eatbugs!)
2) In God We Trust. B-side songs are weak; A-sides are some of their best songs.
3) To Hell With the Devil. Inconsistent song quality.
4) Yellow and Back Attack. Great songs and energy, great debut, poorer sound.
5) Soldiers Under Command. I can't stand the title track. Period.

So underrated. The songs are so hooky and I actually enjoy the glossy sound. .

3. In God We Trust….I might be in the minority on this one but I really like this album a lot. I thought the songs were great although a little too polished. I would love to hear this one redone with less polish and in a bit of a lower more earthy tone.

IGWT - I like this a lot, it‘s a tiny bit too polished for its own good but still a classic
In God We Trust was produced by Michael Lloyd who had, up to the point, been the producer on albums for Shaun Cassidy, Leif Garrett, The Osmonds, Belinda Carlisle, and Barry Manilow. Nary a metal bone in his body, but I guess the boys new what they were getting into.

It's Up 2 I and Come to the Everlife might not be typical ballads but are floofy and cringey. At least Calling on You isn't cringe inducing.Pethead wrote:I guess it depends on what you classify as a ballad. For me, there are only two real ballads: I Believe in You and Lonely. To me Iu2U is IGWT’s equivalent of Sing Along Song, but Iu2U is better.Black Rider wrote:It's Up 2 I and Come to the Everlife might not be typical ballads but are floofy and cringey. I agree with CttE. It’s a skip button for sure.

THWTD had better production.

Re: Rank the Stryper albums (First era)
I could go either way. I like the slick production on IGWT. I mean, it’s Stryper, not Slayer. But there’s nothing wrong with the production on THwTD, either. I’d say AtL has my favorite production overall.Black Rider wrote:THWTD had better production.

You mean like “All of Me”? Talk about cringe inducing.

This is my order as well. I used to have To Hell With The Devil up top but Soldiers has taken that position over the past several years. I go back to it all the time when I listen to classic Stryper. It is the only Stryper until the new one that I listen to both ballads.
The Yellow and Black Attack rose up surprisingly because the youthful energy and a host of killer tracks. It isn't nostalgia either. It was the last of the original run I purchased.
THWTD - a number of true classics with More Than A Man being a top 3 Stryper track for me. However, Sing A Long Song is horrible and All of Me maybe their worst ballad and thereby one of their worst songs. I can't listen to it.
In God We Trust is great for what it is. I essentially like every track. Ultimately it is thin and not as much the style I go for when listening to Stryper. Definitely some killer tracks.
Against the Law is the only Stryper out of the first 5 I can't listen to front to back. Half of it is their best material and I love the updated sound. Yet, I don't like the ballads and most of the middle of the album is weak. I skip tracks 4-8 nearly every time and more often than not just play tracks 1, 9, 10, & 11 and turn it off.

5. Against the Law
All For One and RTHOOY are the only songs here that I like a lot, other than that this song's sound just isn't for me.
4. The Yellow and Black Attack
Decent debut, but they got much better. Also their worst ballads on any album imo.
3. Soldiers Under Command
Some good songs here, slightly heavier
2. To Hell With the Devil
Some great songs here, my favorite is More Than A Man.
1. In God We Trust
More highs, better ballads. Lonely is my favorite classic era Stryper song, and Writing on the Wall is another great song here.
