Marble Tomb (black metal)
I just discovered a new Christian black metal project Marble Tomb - which has released their first single featuring DC Mills of Vials Of Wrath on vocals. Sounds pretty killer! Check it out:

lyrics
Cast from the kingdom
Expelled from the light
You angelic antagonist
Condemned to lurk the night
Horrific prophecies in flesh
Your only purpose is pain
Possessed by the black void
That calls your name
Ensnaring the faithful
In a spiritual assault
You are the one
The lost and broken exalt
Your fangs gleam
In the realm of despair
Imprisoning mankind
As the inferno flares
In your everlasting solitude
Fear cast over your soul
You are now forever disposed
Into the rain of scorn that will
Scorch your consciousness
Until your final death takes hold
The braying moans
Will echo from your fiery grave
Divine reprisal
For the ones you've enslaved
The murder, the torture, the death and disease
Your suffering will encompass all of these
Author of lies, destined to die
Sentenced to nonexistence, for unholy resistance
In your infernal tomb
...no horizon
At your final doom
...no horizon
When you sink into flame
...no horizon
Arrogance to blame
...no horizon

Re: Marble Tomb (black metal)
I really like this but I'm curious to hear what the vocals sound like on the rest. I love DC's vocals and he seems to be getting better or at least better production on his vocals (the last VoW and Crowned In Sorrow) but it seems like he's just a guest vocalist here.
I'd be looking forward to more regardless. Thanks for sharing!

From what I read on their FB, I think they've got an EP in the works and DC is doing guest vocals on the whole thing - which is cool!

That's what I like to and will love to hear!

Pleasantly surprised by this. Some of the Unblack projects coming out lately are just raw noise. This is actually good musicianship. Song is well-written with excellent riffing, atmosphere, and vocals. The production is appropriately raw for the genre instead of just being a cover for poor musicianship and lack of ideas as in some other projects.

New lyric video.
Fun fact: the castle shown at around 0:40 is Spiš Castle in Slovakia. I've been there when visiting my in-laws; it's a really cool spot!

Re: Marble Tomb (black metal)
I ordered this October 31st and it came today. I had completely forgot I ordered it! My wife had to sign for it from Mexico.
This is such an amazing sounding album. Nailed the black metal aesthetic perfectly. Raw but crisply recorded, keyboards but never overbearing, diverse but never stretching too far. This going to be a delight to listen to this evening.

Nice! I ordered mine about the same time and it just got through Customs so hopefully it'll be here soon. I've been waiting for my CD to arrive before I listen to it and am very excited to finally hear it!

Great job guys! Listening now. This is a likely purchase as there isn't a ton of good Christian BM.

I'm glad you like! Indeed, there's a TON of Christian black metal but very little that's this high caliber and quality. I haven't made my favorites of 2022 list yet because I'm certain this will rank pretty highly.

My CD arrived and I've had been able to listen to it a few times through and am really loving it. I've come to grow tired of a lot of black metal and much pickier, but this is really a cut above the majority. Great stuff!

Sounds like it’s time for you to move on to the truly sacred music: thrash metal.Kerrick wrote:My CD arrived and I've had been able to listen to it a few times through and am really loving it. Re: Marble Tomb (black metal)
Wow! If this came shortly after I ordered it rather than into the new year there would be a significant change in my year end list. This is so good! It keeps getting better and better.
I love the diversity and how catchy it is. It's actually really unique in a lot of ways. Hereditary Cessation is such a powerful track. Who does things like this? The spoken word break, the guitar solo, the tremolo transition back into the melody are all so cool. Yet, it's not alone by any means. Every track has something to offer that surprises, catches my ear or even shocks and surprises the same (the choir break in Deus Serviuam - Rising Christ? Oh my!) Some black metal albums can be like a wall of sound, this is anything but that. This is a journey.
Ultimately, this successfully combines all my favorite aspects of the genre without going too far. It's atmospheric and slightly symphonic without being cheesy or overbearing. It's melodic without losing aggression. It's got blast beats galore but there are so many fantastic breaks to let the drumming groove. The drumming is actually quite nimble. The production is clean but not overproduced, sufficiently raw for the genre with the dry guitar sound and clear drums. Vocals are right in that sweet spot, not growled, not shrieked, even expressive with female vocals, choirs, spoken word passages to break it up. The arrangements never stay in one direction too long but the transitions frequent, intentional without losing the song. Lyrically, it's filled with powerful imagery but it is clear and bold in Christ-centered conviction.
If I could imagine it, this could have been my album of the year. I'm going to be playing this often for quite a time to come.
Time to go look at the merch.
