I like the song!
However, that does not sound like Narnia. Musically, it sounds like Christian singing for Skillet. If the keys were more prominent, I think you'd hear it, too. There is no real riff to this song giving it kind of the generic modern day Skillet feel.

I'm glad you said that 'cause that was my first impression. Hope they're not trying to jump on the modern rock train, it left the station already.

I've just never been able to get into his voice....
I mean, I know he is viewed as being good, but his voice (for a lack of a better term) quivers (?) too much for me.

The term I think your looking for is vibrato and it's used when hitting notes that aren't comfortable. I can handle his voice but my favorite album by Narnia is with German Pascual who imo, has a stronger voice.

I agree. It doesn't sound like Narnia. It's kind of generic to me.

Vibrato is use for so much more than just notes that aren't comfortable. Great singers like Whitney Houston, Frank Sinatra, Elvis, Celine Dion, etc. use vibrato to extend a phrase, give more power and emotion, etc. Even in metal you will hear guys like Ronnie James Dio, Jani Lane, Paul Stanley, Sammy Haggar, Ken Tamplin, and many more use vibrato. Most of the time, they use it even when notes are securely in their range. Before autotune, this was a singing device used to show you were a great singer.

Oh, sure, when it's done purposefully that's true, Opera singers have perfected it. In this case though, it's unintentional when he overextends.

I like this song much more than the first single. Yes, it’s downtuned, but still melodic as all get out. Skillet is not this melodic. There’s also a nice solo in there. Other than the downtuned rhythm guitar, this sounds nothing like Skillet. I really like it!

The last few albums of Skillet have definitely been in this vein. They've been very melodic in my ears especially with the heavy use of keyboards and even a violin player live. With Jen Ledger playing drums, she does a lot of vocal harmonies for the band. They've started doing more worshippy stuff for the CCM market as well. Plus, while every song doesn't have them, over half the songs on their albums use guitar solos.
Trust me--the music could seriously be Skillet playing with Christian singing.

First impression is decent, but not great. I'm still buying the album, because they have earned enough cred with me to give it a shot. But this single lacks punch.
And I'm staying out of the Skillet debate!
