New Neal Morse
From what I read the "Sabbath" and Deep Purple sound is intentional.

Really excited about this, two prog albums this year under the name of Neal Morse (yeah I know, the other one is "Neal Morse Band")

Re: New Neal Morse
LOL! Yeah but even for Neal Morse, two double albums in six months is a bit much. Not that I'm complaining though

Absolutely. As long as they stay quality, keep them coming.

I've enjoyed some NM and appreciate his talent but adding Eric Gillette has really opened up the sound imo.

Re: New Neal Morse
There is another song of this album on Youtube. It seems very good indeed, as well as the song above.

I am not a fan of his work, though I willkeep an eye out for this.

I've had a promo copy for some time now, and it continues to grow on me. Generally, I am not a prog fan, per se, but if I like it, I like it. I need to spend more time with this one.

I usually like Neal, but that song just came off as cheesy to me. And I really didn't hear any Sabbathy sound to it.
Re: New Neal Morse
Well, I just finished listening the whole thing. And what can I say, it´s a masterpiece!
I don´t own single one Neal Morse album. Never really been a fan of prog rock / prog metal. I have seen him live once, I remember that he really made a good impression then and I liked the show.
I have spotify for few days and wanted to use it before the subscription ends. I´m lucky that for some reason I wanted to hear some Neal Morse.
It´s very well written rock opera and concept. I liked all the vocalists. Rick Florian and Matt Smith were really good, they were the only ones I knew from the group.
Good, catchy songs. Maybe the first part was a bit better after first listen. Without lyrics though it would just be a double album, but with the lyrics it´s so so much better experience!
I might need to check Neal´s older stuff as well. Maybe, just maybe the melodic metal in me is slowly giving room for other genres as well..
I already want to listen to it again

I like Similitude of a Dream the best, it's loosely based on Pilgrim's Progress.

I'm almost halfway into this. Different and a bit cheesy at times, but certainly a wholesome listen so far.

I started jumping into Neal's music because Matt Smith was praising his music repeatedly and was clearly inspired by it. It opened a whole new world of music for me.jusma wrote:I might need to check Neal´s older stuff as well. Maybe, just maybe the melodic metal in me is slowly giving room for other genres as well..
I'd say you might like albums like One (my favourite) and Sola Scriptura, which is a bit heavier.
