I'm a big fan of his. I saw him open for White Heart back in 1995.
The Jeannie/Johnny saga is powerful.

I just started listening to his back catalog. I'm really enjoying most of it.
He was a refreshing change of pace from all the paint-by-numbers CCM assembly-line artists and songs.
He had a little bit of that in some songs, but was clearly more American rock 'n roll; more honest kind of story-telling about regular people, like Mellencamp, Bryan Adams or Billy Joel, but with a spiritual core. And with a bit of a Jackson Browne influence in his vocal phrasing.

Wow! Timely bump. I was just listening to the Absolutely Positively greatest hits album today!
Yes, I agree with everything Constantine said, especially the comparison with Bryan Adams.
I don't have his first three studio albums, but the song "Soul Reviver" has a euro-synth pop feel to it. Does the rest of the Attitude album have the same sound?

The Attitude album is somewhat musically varied, but I'd say a good portion of it has that Beverly Hills Cop soundtrack / Glenn Frey / Denise Williams kind of 80's pop / synth sheen, with a greater reliance on keyboards and in some cases, a saxophone.eatbugs wrote:I don't have his first three studio albums, but the song "Soul Reviver" has a euro-synth pop feel to it. It has some good songs but overall it's not one of my favorites from him.
