The WORST KISS album is.......

I know that there are a lot of KISS fans and haters here.  This question is for the fans, though.  Which one album do you think was the WORST of their releases?

In my opinion, there is Kiss, then there is the Stanley/Simmons project. There are no bad albums with the original lineup. That said, my vote would be The Elder. It had a few good tunes but overall, it was a pretty weak album.

Been a KISS fan for decades and I, too, think The Elder is their weak-point.

As a casual fan I only really enjoy two album as a whole, Destroyer and Creatures of the Night. The rest all had a lot of filler imo.

I want to like The Elder, but it is just bad no matter how many times I listen.

I am a very casual fan and prefer the non-make up stuff. I was in high school during most of that period (I think Animalize came out when i was in the 8th grade). I love Lick It Up, Animalize, Asylum so I guess I have to pick the weakest of that era which would  be Crazy Nights. Has a few decent tunes and it did well for them but that album is bubblegum metal.

I have never heard The Elder. It go so much flack over the years I just decided it wasn't worth my time checking out.

KISS albums are like pizza, some are better than others but they are all good.

The Elder has some good songs, especially the Ace Songs.

The Elder is bad overall.  Running right behind it is Carnival Of Souls.  Fans didn't want a KISS grunge album.

While I like Hot In The Shade as an album, it really wasn't a KISS record.  It is too pop-rock with too much use of keyboards.

My favorite era of the band is the 80s, though.  From Creatures Of The Night through Asylum was definitely a great time musically for the band.

Another one I avoided but have heard on Spotify is Dynasty. Some songs are OK, others not so good. This one isn't very good. I know the "times were a changin" musically when this album was released.



The chorus is decent, I wonder what this would've sounded like if they recorded it later on.

I grew on KISS including Dynasty, Unmasked and the Elder and I like them all. I agree about Carnival of Souls.

I thought the acoustic version on their Unplugged album of the song turned out better than the original.  It lost a little of that 70's semi-disco sheen that permeated some of their music.  They always walked the line between pop and hard rock....often times veering a little too far into the pop side.

The acoustic version is way cooler.  Too bad they couldn't have recorded that on "Dynasty".  I think it would have been a big hit for them that way.

I am a long time KISS fan. There is no KISS album that I dislike. I would say that their weakest album is Carnival Of Souls. Overall it is a decent album, but it really does not sound like a KISS album.

Just to add my two cents about The Elder. I think it is an excellent album, it is one my favorites by the band.

We sent it out for a good cleaning.  It has gotten dusty with little to no need for it lately.

Thanks for letting me borrow it for my Big Chris & D'Bare Bones Band page on Facebook.  I have had to remove TWO knuckleheads lately.

3 worst: Carnival of Souls, The Elder, Monster.

3 best: Creatures of the Night, Lick it Up, Revenge. (I'd put Alive 1 on this list but I assume we're grading studio albums).

All other albums have way too much filler. The songs on Alive 1 are basically the only good songs in the first 3 albums. Ditto for Alive 2 (And with the exception of Rocket Ride Kiss even managed to give us filler on a freaking live album).

HOWEVER, Alive 3 could have had so many great songs from the post-Elder album sequence (Exciter, I've Had Enough, Any Way You Slice It, Fits Like a Glove, Under the Gun, Thrills in the Night, Paralyzed, Spit, Danger, Killer, I Still Love You, Young and Wasted, All Hell's Breaking Loose, No No No, Silver Spoon, and even Boomerang for example). Agree that all other no-make up records are full of filler.

Finally, Sonic Boom was infinitely better than the garbage that was Monster.

Carnival Of Souls.  Total snoozefest.  Followed by Dynasty
