Antman and The Wasp
pretty good, middle of the road in terms of Marvel movies, but good action and comedy made up for the plot info dumps and random side characters

Re: Recently Watched Movies
I watched Hostiles last night. Meh it was alright. Pretty good acting, pacing, etc. but IMO quite poor writing. For some reason it's popular for characters in movies/shows nowadays to speak in this very philosophical, abstract, "deep" manner that is completely unnatural and makes the characters totally unrelatable and the suspension-of-belief impossible. Hostiles can be added to that list. It had some other flaws as well, though more minor. I did appreciate though that the "liberals" in the movie were intentionally made to be obnoxious haha and that the main characters were professing Christians. The Christian characters were depicted positively which is quite rare these days. Overall I'm not sure I'd recommend it because there are definitely better movies out there, but it also wasn't terrible.

The Christian Bale western? I might have to check it out now..............Kerrick wrote:I watched Hostiles last night. Meh it was alright. Pretty good acting, pacing, etc. but IMO quite poor writing. Re: Recently Watched Movies
Yup Christian Bale is the main character. It's interesting to note that Ben Foster has a small role in the movie too. (The two of them were in another western together, 3:10 To Yuma.)
Don't get your hopes up too high because it's a fairly mediocre movie IMO, but it was entertaining.

Re: Recently Watched Movies
Me and my 4 year old son watched "Ant Boy" last night on Netflix. I was just looking for something fun for him to watch and thought a kid as a superhero might be fun for him, and more tolerable than PJ Masks...
It actually wasnt bad at all. I believe the movie may have been Norwegian, dubbed in English

I really enjoyed the new 3:10 to Yuma, but I will remain skepticalKerrick wrote:Yup Christian Bale is the main character. It's interesting to note that Ben Foster has a small role in the movie too. (The two of them were in another western together, 3:10 To Yuma.)

Re: Recently Watched Movies
^What'd you think of Three Billboards...? I loved the director's first two movies (In Bruges and Seven Psychopaths) but I really did NOT like Three Billboards... It was primarily because of the way they glorified suicide as being something "brave" and "loving". Also the main character was quite unlikable and the movie was unnecessarily (and quite unrealistically for that area I think) foul.
Veronika and I watched Sicario 2 the other night at the $3 theater. It was pretty good but not great. It was more "typical Hollywood" in style/structure than the first but it was still pretty entertaining. I'm glad we waited for it to come to the cheap theater instead of paying upwards of $20 for the both of us to see it. My main gripe was how poor the script was: lots of cliche and stilted dialog. It's a decent rental though, particularly if you liked the first one.

It was weird. I didn't like the ending, and I'm not sure if I will remember anything about it six months from now.

How was it? I thought it looked decent from the trailers but maybe a little too risque... Also Jennifer Lawrence has gone off the liberal deep-end which doesn't help...

You nailed it. One thing I liked about it is the lead character isn't one of those "supergirl" characters that Hollywood feels the need to shove down our throats.
Maybe it's just my white male privilege talking.

Down with the patriarchy!!!
Hmm, well I'll probably skip it then. I do really like the male lead actor in that movie. He's in It Comes At Night which I thought looked quite good but haven't seen yet...

Re: Recently Watched Movies
The Open House
It was a movie on Netflix about this woman and her teenage son who, through some ill timed experiences, move into a mansion owned by the woman's sister. They stay in this house to help with showing the house to potential buyers. After the first open house, signs point to someone staying behind and staying in the house. Scary stuff happens after that.
OK, that might not be a great synopsis, but I didn't want to give away all the details for you.
