Geography tour of CMR
We have already a CMR map, who can situate each of us spatially on our respectives countries, but who can't inform us about geography and real live in our regions.
So, this is Geography thread to promove (or not) your region!
Let's me introduce Bouches du Rhône, south-east French county (in the UK meaning):
It's a county from around 850 km of Paris, with mediterranean climate (so yes lots of sun, but also lots of breeze due to its funnel-shapped relief).
Why you HAVE TO come here:
- Troglodytical site and 400 years old plane tree near my city:
- A Base of military aviation who's next to my city, great if you like planes:
- Medieval town centre in sedimentary rocks:
Painting of Nostradamus, ok not from Middle Age but 80's, however good artwork i think
- Red soil and eggs fossils of Sainte Victoire mountain near city of Aix:
- Aix medieval town centre with it commercial and cultural activities,Marseille (3rd biggest French city) quarter of Noailles and Cours Julien:
Noailles, ethnic quarter of Marseille
Cour Julien, artist quarter of Marseille
Why you MUSTN'T come here:
- It's a seismic zone. Last earthquake, 100 years ago, totally destroyed village of Vernègues and had a tragic human report. Cellar are still visible in ruins of old village:
-Dirtiness of Marseille. Marseille have reputation of dirty, corrupted and quite unsafe city. Most of it is true.
- Planes can be really noisy, especially Rafales:
- Good for environnment but not really if you have cars, there is few car park and all costs money.
- Temperature from june to september can be close to 45 °C

Re: Geography tour of CMR
That's cool.
I live in the US, the state Illinois, in a village (not even a town) of 3,500 people called Pawnee. We're getting a Dollar General soon and there's a gas station to go to.
There's lots of corn fields around and I like my house. The end.

I am extremely blessed to live in Santa Cruz, CA. Besides the angry and smelly hippies everywhere, it's a pretty dang awesome spot. I'll try to post some pictures soon!

I live in Tulsa Oklahoma...its a big city with lots of suburbs..We have earthquakes here and tornadoes and floods...The city is in disrepair and the infrastructure is horrible...The state and the city have massive budget whoas and are cutting expenses and services like crazy... Our sheriff dept. is under investigation as well. The city is made up of locals as well as a lot of transplants from other states..Sometimes thats cool and other times not so much...The driving here is aggressive and crime is above the national norm...meth, alcoholism and cigarette smoking are huge here..(http://www.city-data.com/crime/crime-Tulsa-Oklahoma.html) explains that...
It is the home of Oral Roberts university and Rhema Bible college ....
It does have its good points...There are alot of things to do here like concerts, festivals, casinos, shopping, a Zoo, an Aquarium, Museums, Lakes and lots of cool little shops and vintage stores.. The weather isn't to bad most of the time...

You post all of these beautiful pictures of where you live, yet you have very negative things to say about it.
I'm imagining a pothead who thinks he knows everything, is entitled to everything, and hates everything.

Re: Geography tour of CMR
I live in the wonderful Eastern Townships of the Province of Québec, on the outskirts of Sherbrooke, a city of some 160,000 people. Known for having Bishop's University, voted as a top party university (also the place I'll be attending next year, not because of the parties), and the top-notch Université de Sherbrooke, the city is very hilly and is a great place to burn out one's clutch if one is a novice. The city has 6 distinct regions with different characters: Lennoxville (south-east), the primarily anglophone neighbourhood where Bishop's is located; Mont-Bellevue (south), home to many immigrants and students of U de S, and located at the foot of a steep hill on which there are ski slopes; Rock Forest (south-west), an area dominated by industrial supply companies and '70s housing (actually, most of the city is '70s housing); Saint-Élie (extreme west), a more rural neck-of-the-woods; Sherbrooke (center-north-west), which is mainly residential; and Fleurimont (north-east), which is home to the cégep (a post-secondary pre-college school that is unique to Québec) and many people and many businesses. I'm located between Fleurimont and Lennoxville right now, although I'm likely to move to a place between Mont-Bellevue and Lennoxville next semester.
A lot of things have made me fall in love with the place. For instance, although the bus network isn't fantastically well laid out, there is one, unlike my home town where I live in the boonies and there used to be one bus that ran through the city centre. Also, the main arteries have more than one lane, so one can pass slow-moving vehicles, and people drive pretty well (for Quebecers at least). The hilly terrain, although a pain for getting around by foot or bike, makes for spectacular views of the city, especially at night. As well, no matter where you are, you're never very far from nature. Even when you're right downtown, there's a trail that goes through a river valley up to a lake in the heart of the city, around which there is another trail. I've seen deer in residential zones before. It's also pretty easy to find a ride to Montréal, the hub of the province; although it's about two hours away, you can take the bus or carpool because many people do the trip, unlike the dinky town where I grew up that had buses to Ottawa (also two hours away) at irregular hours and almost no carpool either. And finally, the cost of living is pretty low. People tend to be bilingual as well, or at least can make their way through a conversation in English if they have to, which is useful for the anglophones who live between Lennoxville and the States (the border's about 45 minutes away).
Inconveniences… well, the public transportation network isn't fantastic; the hills make it a challenge to get around on a bike or on foot; things are a bit spread out for getting around on foot or even by car (although I'm not complaining about having room to breathe); the city isn't on the way to any other major city, which makes travelling there a bit more expensive and less convenient; the choice of entertainment and entertainment isn't huge (not much of a problem for me, although going to Montréal for big concerts gets to be a bit of a pain); and that's about all I can think of.
