All roads paved in metal all lead back to Black Sabbath.
I agree Dusty.
Dehumanizer was the darkest and most doom sounding album Sabbath created with Dio.
I thought The Devil You Know was really good in that regard as well. It's a Black Sabbath album in all but name. I count it as a Sabbath album and have it placed chronologically between Forbidden and 13 in my cd collection.

While I do like “The Devil You Know”, there is just something about Dehumanizer that I like more. I think it’s a combination of the production, heaviness and slightly more uptempo tunes. Plus Dio’s voice was still in prime shape back in 1992.
With the H&H album, you can hear his age holding him back a bit. Although he still did amazingly well.

I'd go Dehumanizer too both cool albums though. H&H reminds me of Angry Machines though I like Angry Machines better. Never understood the hate for Angry Machines and the guitar work Traci G Brought to the table was fresh for Dio.TZ75 wrote:Dustofyears wrote:Quite right Heaven and Hell is Sabbath and Devil you know is a good album too.MagnusPrime wrote:TZ75 wrote:Dustofyears wrote:Love Black Sabbath. This is one of my all time favorite albums, Voodoo, Sign of The Southern Cross, E150, into the title track is the best stretch of Dio tracks maybe ever, just my opinion of course
Country Girl and Slipping Away are both really underrated, and Falling Off The Edge of The World is an all time classic

Mob Rules is a great companion piece to Heaven & Hell.
H & H was a real surprise at the time though, no one expected Black Sabbath to sound like that, much less be so good at that stage of their career.

What do you all think of The Eternal Idol? I felt the production held it back but the remaster helped it a lot and I enjoy the power metal with doom mix.

I think Ancient Warrior and the title track are epic.

This gives me an excuse to post my favorite Youtube video:Pethead wrote:I also really like The Shining (song, book, and movie).
Note: I don't necessarily believe the evidence provided in the video, but I do find it mesmerizing.

Don't beat me with a stick... but I've never heard the whole album (just like 3 of the songs).
At the time they recorded the album I had not idea that they reunited with Dio for an album and had totally given up on hearing anything from B.S. that I would be interested in.
I'm pretty sure I only found out about 10 years ago that there was anything post "Born Again" that didn't have Tony Martin singing. That was probably the first time I even heard of Dehumanizer. I should probably check out the whole album.

I like it a lot!
I have a remastered copy. I actually really like all the albums with Tony Martin! So very underrated. He had a very good voice that was similar to Dio’s, but more smooth and he could hit some impressive high notes. The whole Eternal Idol album is great. Glory Ride is another standout track. He had some really catchy chorus sections on most of the songs.
Not to mention the use of Iommi’s longtime friend Geoff Nicholls (R.I.P.) on keyboards. He added a lot of epic feel to the songs. In addition, Bob Daisley (ex-Ozzy bassist) penned the lyrics. He had previously written many classic songs for Ozzy.
