Not Gonna Lie
Im really disappointed with a new release that came out today.
Fallstar's Future Golden Age
Lyrically the album is just really bad, I mean yes to a certain degree they hold truth and weight, but tell me what you think of these lyrics.
(Some excerpts)
Trust me World Peace is a great thing but when the lead singer says things like this
Please dont turn this into a Theo discussion just state your opinion on the lyrics and move on
Or tell me if you bought/and or liked this album
Here are links to lyrics and the commentary from the lead singer on each song

Fallstar's Future Golden Age
Lyrically the album is just really bad, I mean yes to a certain degree they hold truth and weight, but tell me what you think of these lyrics.
(Some excerpts)
I was born to push against the sorcerers. I was born to mobilize the voice of youth. Shut down down the armories. Shut down down Guantanamo Bay. I'm pissed, pissed, we're forced to pay for drones to airstrike families.
Blessed Jesus, I will follow. I've learned to fight for the rights of all men and the poor. But there's a shaking in my brain. I'm just one man among the millions. Sing. I'm part of one voice that sees we can build a new world.
I can hear you justify your beliefs in war you call it love. I know God above us sees me and I know that he hasn't forgotten my pain, my people, my struggle, my cries. Coming from the mouths of the smallest ones to fortify the bones of the weaker ones.
If f-18's are doves, and M-16's are love, then peace is not at all what I thought it would be... I'm tired of hearing 'bout another bomb. Another drone ripping a family apart. I'm sick of safety at expense of the weak. I hate Democracy speech by Oligarchy regimes. I'm pissed that money is the ruler of man. I'm pissed we're separate and so distracted. I'm pissed that no one ever really cares or understands all blood is our blood. Hate. Hate, but we're calling it love. Love. Love, but it looks like war.
I strike back and rage into the dying of the light. Without an afterlife, I found heaven on the inside. We're at war with the cycles. We're at war with fear inside of us.
Creating like The Creator. I'm such a small man finding my way down a narrow path. I feel my spirit align. I can hear our frequencies harmonize. Now I'm aligning with the stars. I'm aligning with the will of The Most High.
Trust me World Peace is a great thing but when the lead singer says things like this
Also I’m not sure there will be any sort of afterlife or heaven, but I believe we can live in heaven on earth by finding inner peace and harmony with God and man. So I write about that idea here.
Lyrically the song is listing things that I would love to see happen. Kindness to immigrants, end to all wars, and to see all humans embrace the goodness inside of us. It’s reflecting on the scary thought that not everyone wants those things, and praying that we all one day will.

That is very sad. Fallstar's previous stuff was pretty good, and I really liked their last album. The lyrics sound atrocious.

Honestly I am very dissapointed, the first like seven songs are all about political stand points and disarming governments, world peace, and letting all the immigrants in.SpaceGuy wrote:That is very sad. Then the rest of the songs to me are very New Age, talking about "aligning with The Universe", and what not.
This is my nomination for disappointment of the year
Like really Backdraft is my fave album of 2013 and then they release this political statement.

Bring our boys home. We aren't going to win a war against an enemy that we don't know.
Let Americans arm themselves freely and let's defend our borders.
Let's profile potential terrorists in our own land before putting boots in sand.

You think hes pissed? He used that word so much I was thinking "ok I get it, your upset". Seems he is trying to push an anti-gun agenda and some of his lyrics sound like a Miss America talking. I mean re-read this quote and imagine a blonde miss America saying it on stage "Kindness to immigrants, end to all wars, and to see all humans embrace the goodness inside of us.
Re: Not Gonna Lie
If he's anti-gun, that's sad. We need guns to defend ourselves and keep terrorism at bay.
It also seems as though he's given up on God and the Christian doctrines of Heaven and Hell. Universalism is a lie.
But, we still need to bring our soldiers home.

Re: Not Gonna Lie
I don't like political opinions in music (or movies). Even ones I disagree with usually turn me off. I think Christians should speak up on issues, I just don't want to hear it in music. I know this sounds hypocritical since I listen to "Christian music" and a case could be made that that is a giant opinion in itself. If they want to do it that's fine, I respect their right to do it, I just don't plan to purchase it.
What disturbs me FAR more quotes like "I’m not sure there will be any sort of afterlife or heaven..." Is this even a Christian band at this point?

Yea he used pissed a ton, it got annoying. And yes exactly Miss AmericaMetal Blessing Radio wrote:You think hes pissed? He used that word so much I was thinking "ok I get it, your upset". That statement completely put me off of this album, especially then going back and looking at the previous lyrics about, "The Universe, and aligning with the stars, and a Future Golden Age" very New Ageeatbugs wrote:What disturbs me FAR more quotes like "I’m not sure there will be any sort of afterlife or heaven..." Honestly, they are from Portland so over the past two years since Backdraft it looks like the political scene there has majorly effected them, its sad to say but I wont be pre ordering any of theirs in the future without reading lyrics first.
Its even worse cause Im one of the 160 people who backed it, and I got my picture in the album liners, at least I ordered their whole discography so I will have their older stuff to look forward to.

What scares me more is that from what I have seen Im the only one, out of their fans, that has mentioned anything about the lyrics

I'd venture to say 90% of people, even Christian metal fans don't care much about lyrics.. A lot of bands' lyrics have gone downhill, but they rarely get called out on it.

Re: Not Gonna Lie
While I feel it's totally acceptable, and for me even part of the appeal for hardcore is to address social and political issues, these lyrics come off as immature, for lack of a better term. A band like Ignite doesn't annoy me in the least.

Thats true I like that they approach good subjects on the songs Slaves and Radiospitshockey81 wrote: part of the appeal for hardcore is to address social and political issues
(all the others are from a liberal approach)
but honestly they could approach them better For Today did a great job addressing slavery with Fight The Silence
Im surprised that Fallstar said nothing about abortion but never mind lets not make this too political.

True. I AM a lyrics guy but often I'll buy an album lyrically sight unseen, especially from an established band like Fallstar or As I Lay Dying. By the time I read the lyrics it's too late.

This is sadly true. While we listen to Christian music because it uplifts Christ a lot of us don't bother checking lyrics. We take everyones word that a band is Christian. I am glad im not the only person who actually cares about what I am putting into my mind

One of the most notable things I've seen in Christian Metal from the very early days until now is how watered down the lyrics are. That isn't to say that every song needs to be in-your-face Jesus, but instead of music having Jesus/Christ as a central focus, its certainly moved more onto "Positive living" and such. Of course, bands can and have addressed social issues early on (Ark of Suffering by Tourniquet comes to mind), but the composition of most music has changed vastly.
Personally, I think that's the worst thing about modern Christian music - the absence of Christ as a central focus. That isn't to say that some bands still make Him and/or Biblical subjects the focus, but in metalcore/modern metal, its kind of rare to have a band that is in-your-face Jesus anymore.

Re: Not Gonna Lie
One of my biggest problems with Christian music as a whole was the whole in your face sugar coated Jesus lyrics. To me it made me feel like they were out of touch or I was not normal for feeling things I felt (such as depression). Nobody sang about anything "Real, everyday stuff" the exception was Deliverance, specifically "Learn" which is why this album has such a profound influence on me because Jimmy was writing and singing about real things. Real pain, real hardships.nothing was candy coated.

Good post dude! I agree wholeheartedly! I was raised with Christian music only ... and I remember when I first got into secular music, I was amazed at how uplifted I felt ... as a Christian youth. Because they were speaking about honest everyday stuff ... instead of all this 'preachy' stuff.
I love Jesus, but I think He is tired of us 'playing around' at church and what not. He's a real person as well as God. He's not fake ... into this Sunday School drool. Sometimes secular music speaks more to a person's heart than sugar coated 'Jesus Marshmellow Metal'. That is why I love bands like Trouble and King's X - who have Christians in the band ... but they can sing about real stuff. They are not 'expected' to be all preachy and what not.
Even though I'm a Christian, I don't like being preached at. Nobody really does ... unless they are asleep in marshmellow land.

Re: Not Gonna Lie
But back to the topic at hand.
I like secular lyrics sometimes moreso than Christian lyrics.
However, I do not like stupid and dumb lyrics.
The lyrics in this thread are just that. Stupid and dumb. Good call Hardcore. Good call.
Oh ... and I'm a Christian Democrat. Still think these lyrics are dumb!!!

Portland?
I'm Democrat, but I'm also very conservative on many issues. I'm anti-abortion and anti-gay marriage. But I'm a Democrat for reasons that far supercede these two issues. It's basically a 'lesser of two evils' kinda thing.
I'm actually not truly a Democrat, but a Libertarian. However, since we've had no luck in the Libertarian party over the past years ... I've decided to basically vote Democrat ... since Bush's America came tumbling down ... the greed and the evil in the Republican party is unparalleled. Not meaning to debate though ...
Moving on ... yeah these lyrics are very juvenile sounding to me. Very whiny and complainy too.
I like strong lyrics like Trouble write for example. Still talking about God ... but all of the real life issues too. It's just real. I like real.
