Our nation is still anti-catholic.. A huge section of the church ( Including some denominational Protestants) are anti-Catholic in the United States

The Puritans believed that Catholicism had a lot of unbiblical teachings. Of course they would be against the Catholic Church and wouldn't like things similar to it.

Better to be anti-freeze, especially this time of the year...

In the extreme sense of the term, folks like Jack T. Chick, but I would include John MacArthur in that category. Folks like this consider the RCC to be a "Satanic organization bent on the damnation of souls", to quote Johnny Mac. They're rabid foaming at the mouth hatred of the RCC  blinds them to history and leads them to condemn the practices of the Church that many Protestants denominations practice as well...

Aside from Chick, for Macarthur, don't you think it comes down to a Gospel issue for him ? Same as it was Paul and what he addresses in Galatians. Sure, he probably could use more tact in what he says. But is it that much different than the original Reformers ? As far as labelling the RCC satanic, I guess it would all depend on wether or not it has a saving Gospel or not. I guess if it doesn't, getting mad over someones tactfulness is rather moot. I personally prefer James Whites approach which strongly denounces Romes theology and practice, but in a respectful way ( in my opinion anyway ).

The issue between the Puritans and the RCC is rather moot. The whole reason why some left England was because of the Church of England and the way the Crown was dealing with them. The ones that wanted a more " pure " Protestant Church were called the " puritans " as a derogatory term. They agreed with most of the theology of the Anglican church ( heavily reformed ), but they felt the Church retained too much of the organization and rituals of the RCC. So the historical significance id between the puritans and the Church of England.
