Skyfall. Good choice. My wife and I both enjoyed it.
Last night we watched The Man of Tai Chi. I give it a 5 out of 10 stars. Good concept, poor execution.

It was so good!
I'm actually torn though because never before have I seen a movie veer so far off course from the book and still be so good!

Peter and the other screen writers did add a lot of poetic license to the Hobbit storyline, that's for sure. However, from my understanding it is all in line with the other books put out by both Tolkien and his son, and I assume this "new" storyline with its filler and expansion has the blessing of the Tolkien clan. Regardless, it still has been a good series thus far.

Re: Recently Watched Movies
I watched Valkyrie the other evening. Although I like WWII movies, I was hesitant to watch this one because a) I don't really like Tom Cruise that much, and b) it was based on actual facts so I knew there would be no "happy ending" (like this time they succeeded! LOL!) None-the-less, I think it was overall a good movie. Assuming the screenwriters didn't take too much poetic license, it was interesting to learn that the failed plot to kill Hitler was really quite an elaborate plan that actually could have succeeded despite the failure of the explosion, if one or two crucial individuals in key positions had made different decisions. I am tempted to watch Operation Valkyrie now to see if there are any major differences in the storyline.
I was a bit surprised that Rommel was not even mentioned in the Tom Cruise version, even though he was linked to the same assassination attempt and forced to commit suicide in order to spare his family from persecution.

Re: Recently Watched Movies
I watched You're Next over the weekend. It was a decent horror flick. Nothing new about it, but it was pretty suspenseful. It was really gruesome/violent so I looked away quite a bit. I used to be all about the gnarly horror flicks but I just don't feel right watching that crap anymore for the most part.
I also bought Inside Llewyn Davis though I haven't watched it yet. I'm a HUGE Coen brothers fan and own the rest of their movies. I didn't get the chance to see it in theaters but I'm sure it'll be good! I hope to watch it soon.

Re: Recently Watched Movies
What was that "horror" film where some guy in a suit and tie had a bunch of office workers kidnapped in a conference room and tortured them in front of each other?
I saw part of that last year and that was pretty wicked.

^Eww, no! That sounds bad though! Not sure which one that is, but I'll pass! No, this one was a well-to-do family with their mid-20-something kids and their spouses being attacked in a big house by some people with animal-masks and having to fight for survival.

I don't like gory movies anymore, but I still love a good scary movie. My last two horror movies , "Mama" and "Sinister" have both been more scary, not blood and guts. I guess that's why I liked them.

Re: Recently Watched Movies
I haven't seen either of those; maybe I'll have to check 'em out! Metaldude, have you seen Pontypool? Zero gore (actually I think there's a little blood dripping from a zombie's mouth or something) but really quite suspenseful and overall pretty well done, especially considering its tiny budget. I definitely recommend it.
I used to be a big horror-buff though not so much anymore. I still love movies like the Scream series, The Cabin In The Woods, American Werewolf In London, and other witty comedy-horror flicks.

I used to like the thrasher movies.. Freddy, Jason, Mike... but not so much anymore.
never enjoyed "really scary" movies, though.
I'm much more of a comedy/drama/action type guy.

Re: Recently Watched Movies
I finally got to watch the Dark Knight Rises. I can't say I am a big fan. The Dark Knight was much better. But over all a depressing story line. Not digging what is coming out of DC lately. Much more into Marvel.
Re: Recently Watched Movies
^Yeah that movie was really quite unimpressive. Can't say I'm the biggest fan of Nolan, though TDK was pretty decent.

Classic! That's a great one. Gotta love John Carpenter. The Thing and They Live are lots of fun as well.

Re: Recently Watched Movies
Escape From NY was made in 1981, the storyline was 16 years in the future (1997). Now, the future (1997) was 16 years ago. LOL!
15 years after Escape From NY, Kurt Russell returned with Escape From L.A. (1996) which was based on the year 2013. Confused yet? He's overdue for another Escape movie me thinks!

Very good acting but I cannot recommend this movie. Storyline fell apart in the last 10 minutes. But I did learn about Hoodoo http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hoodoo_%28folk_magic%29

Re: Recently Watched Movies
I saw a guy at work the other day with a shirt that had "I (snake's face) NY". I told him awesome shirt. Also, Escape from Detroit would be awesome!
Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
That was definitely among the better superhero movies. I have to say, I am starting to get worn out on these, but that was good. Also, despite the fact I like politics, I tend to not like that stuff in movies. I mostly watch movies to escape, as it were, but even with the political message in it, it was easy to get past that and still quite good.

^That is a way cool shirt! Haha rad.
I watched Under The Skin last night. Trippy movie. I really liked it though. As a warning, there's a fair bit of nudity but it's not just thrown in there to sell more tickets I feel. It's very dark and surreal, though took a slightly different direction than I expected it would. Vaak, I think you'd dig it, not sure if many others here would haha.
