Did he really deserve his own thread? I dunno. 

I woulda titled the thread 'name your favorite comedian' or best comedian and then talk about him.  Then we get a discussion going.

I'm a comedy snob and its difficult to make me laugh and I quit watching most comedians a long time ago since the vast majority are filthy (or "work blue").  I haven't listened to that many comedy specials.  Even conservative comedian Steven Crowder is outrageously raunchy in his show.

Jim is really good though, but there's a lot of great comedians still going.  I would say Norm is the best, but he recently past.  The clips I've seen of Chapelle are impressive, but I haven't watched a full show.  Jim Breuer puts on a very visual show and does great with voice inflections.  His presentation is stronger than Jim Gaffigan, but his material isn't as good.

I used to listen to Opie and Anthony when they had comedians on and Brian Regan was really good at hitting homers after Opie served him up some softballs.

I don't think anyone's better at working a crowd and crowd interaction than Sinbad. He isn't dirty at all either, which has something to do with his Baptist upbringing as a pastor's kid.  He's great at just coming up with stuff on the fly just by asking the crowd questions and improving with them.  His stuff isn't as strong as it once was in the 90's.

I saw Seinfeld live and it was pretty good, but nothing new.  The clips in his series that started and ended the episode were funnier than anything in the show I saw. The guy I was with was a die hard and said most the bits were recycled. 

That's just my limited viewpoint of the state of comedy.

Is this a Gen X thing? If I like it, it's the best. Because Gaffigan isn't even close.

Well, he's easily the best comedian still living now that Norm MacDonald and Robin Williams are no longer with us.

I don't find him that funny, yeah we know you're a glutton, it's not that funny. I think Tim Hawkins is funnier than Gaffigan
