There are heavier genres... there are faster genres... but something about nu/groove metal riffs makes me go so much crazier than any other genre

Oh, my opinion of Whitecross? They're not my favorite band or anything, but I do like a good amount of their songs and was pretty excited to hear about this new album coming out. My favorite thing about them is probably the solos. They have great solos. I prefer more melodic/hook-focused hair metal (e.g. Holy Soldier and Stryper), but for hair metal they could be a good deal softer. My favorite album is Triumphant Return and my favorite songs are Down, Attention Please, and Heaven's Calling Tonight. Equillibrium is my fourth favorite (with the first three in order making up my top 3), and easily their most underrated imo. Overall I think Whitecross is a good hair band and, not including the tracks from the new album that weren't on the EP, their songs all average out to ~7.845/10, though that will likely go up after I score the new album, as, judging from the ep, this will likely be in the top 4 albums from them for me. This review still seems more negative than I wanted it to for some reason, maybe because of how I started it off, but this is the best I can come up with for now.oldschooldoom wrote:^ I would like to hear a young mans opinion of an old band very familiar to many of us

Trying to think who the vocals remind me of. Kevin DuBrow, maybe, with almost a Brian Johnson sound at times?
Rex shreds, to the surprise of absolutely no one.

Really? I like the new album, but the first 5 are all pretty hooky.StevenCressler wrote:Listening to the new Whitecross album, I'm glad they're adding more hooks in this album than the ones before!

Wut? All are guitar focused and hooky.StevenCressler wrote:Idk, I've always considered Whitecross more guitar-focused, where bands like Stryper and Holy Soldier are more hook-focused. Either way, I'd still say this album has stronger melodic hooks than their ones before.

Okay, I guess when I say "hook" I'm talking about how he sings "generation" in "The Way We Rock". The type of melodic stings that make you feel something.Pethead wrote:This is still the catchiest thing they ever did:

I mean in what I like about them. I like to Stryper primarily for the hooks, with riffs secondary (Holy Soldier's lyrics are actually my favorite thing about them). I listen to Whitecross primarily for the guitar work, with the catchy choruses as the secondary thing that grabs me.Black Rider wrote:Wut? These might be Whitecross's best lyrics, on any album.
