Re: Sepultura coming to an end?
It appears so.
Truthfully, I haven’t been into them for ages. The last album I enjoyed was Chaos AD. Although there were some good songs here and there on the later albums.
That said… I wonder what the reason is that they decided to retire the band. Sepultura is a huge brand. I’m guessing that someone wants to leave and they don’t want to find another replacement. Or Andreas feels he has done all he can with it and wants to go out with an album he praises as one of his best.
In time we’ll find out. Interviews and questions are coming!

For me, nothing can top the combo of Beneath the Remains and Arise.
I wonder what Max and Igor think of this news?

I have not heard a single good song from them since Max left, nor a good song from Max in that whole time.

As much as I like Max’s vocals, even he was going downhill with the Roots album. And I also think Soulfly is a mixed bag. I like a fair share of the albums with Marc Rizzo, but the first few were Nu-Metal nonsense with unnecessary foul language.
As of late, Max has drastically toned down his F-bombs on the albums.

Plot twist: They "break up"...
...then Max and Igor get the rights to the name.
They make the true follow up to Arise.
Wishful thinking aside, I actually like a lot of their post-Max material.
I also wonder what the real reason is behind their "farewell".

I was thinking the same thing about the Cavalera brothers taking back the name. I really wish they would, but I think Andreas owns the rights now. Crazy to think… considering the Cavalera brothers literally started the band.
Nothing against Derrick as a person, but you can’t replace Max. The Gloria (Max’s wife/manager) fiasco has lasted almost 30 years! They should have reunited 10 years ago.
I’m not gonna lie… no disrespect to Ted, but I wouldn’t mind Gary Lenaire taking back the Tourniquet name. He and Guy Ritter started the band (with Ted). They are co-founders. Actually they started the idea of Touniquet back in Oregon before they met Ted.
I know it’s wishful thinking…
Mainly because Ted owned the rights and there are just too many albums that had nothing to do with Gary and Guy. It would require starting over again with a new follow up to Pathogenic Ocular Dissonance (the last album with Guy). That’s why it won’t happen (and it would most likely get pushback from many fans).
Flood is doing a great job! But let’s face it… Tourniquet is a way better name!

You can't "take back the name". It's not theirs. The Cavalera brothers stupidly quit and their manager shouldn't been the first one to tell them that was a HORRIBLE idea.
If you can't make good music without the name, you can't make it with it either.

I like a lot of the post Max stuff , Machine Messiah is my second favorite of theirs. I think if they'd changed the name people would've accepted it better.

Who knows… maybe there is a clause somewhere that says one party can use the name if the other retires. After all, the Cavalera brothers started the band. I know it’s unlikely, but it’s possible. It’s legal mumbo jumbo.
As far as “making good music”, that’s subjective and a matter of opinion. Lots of people like Soulfly and Cavalera Conspiracy. They recently have been touring under the moniker “Cavalera” playing anniversary tours for the iconic albums.
You and I don’t decide what is considered good. We are biased to our own personal tastes.

I also like Machine Messiah! It’s the only one with Derrick that I enjoy (I bought the shirt from that tour). Have you noticed that the cover illustration is very derivative of Arise? Very cool!
It’s a killer album. I would at least rank it tied with Chaos AD.

Re: Sepultura coming to an end?
Someone gave me an idea and made me think that this “final tour” is just a way for Andreas to let Derrick go with dignity while setting the stage for a reunion with the Cavaleras in the near future.
It makes sense. They are all getting older and know that only a true reunion will be the most successful thing they can do at this point.
It’s just a theory… but stranger things have happened (like Phil Anselmo touring under the Pantera name without the Abbotts).

Sepultura's albums before Beneath and Arsie are awesome too. It was all over when Roots came out and they were influenced by Korn, then they also became a whole other band carrying the banner.
Watched a recent concert with the cavalera bros and even now they still kill it on stage. One of my top thrash bands, can really feel the anger burn in those early albums, they weren't messing round.

Yeah they really struggled early on.
Didn't have any money. Even had to borrow the instruments to record Bestial Devastation.
