Underrated Deliverance albums
So, my two favorite Deliverance albums are Learn and Assimilation...
Learn does seem to get a good amount of love here, but Assimilation sure doesn't. I think it's got great guitars, melodies, and defintely their strongest album lyrically imo.

Assimilation for sure. I like that album quite a bit actually. Heavy and catchy. The David Bowie influence blends quite well with the direction Jimmy took with this release.
As Above, So Below was actually a pretty good album as well, but real drums (they used an electric kit) would have taken it from "good" to "great" IMO.

Thing is, us old dogs got to know Deliverance when they came out with the debut, followed by WooW and What A Joke, and we were hooked to that sweet thrash steeze. Then they progressed (pun intended) musically and some were disappointed because they did not get the trusted formula (me included). You coming with an unbiaised mind are open to take all albums and just pick what suits you best, whereas we first need to change our preconceptions… which is noyt easy for old dudes :-)

River Disturbance, Camelot in Smithereens, and Assimilation are all pretty underrated.

There's good stuff on each album and I love Stay but I don't listen through an album after Stay, just songs on playlists. Completely agree about As Above.

Yeah I was guessing there was some of that to it lolRaegoul wrote:Thing is, us old dogs got to know Deliverance when they came out with the debut, followed by WooW and What A Joke, and we were hooked to that sweet thrash steeze. I thought the re-release of Camelot in Smithereens was amazing! That album shot up my list. I remember back in the day I was terribly disappointed in it. After 25 years my tastes were way more accepting.
I almost grabbed Assimilation yesterday because your favorite songs post. I've liked what I heard from it.

He nailed it.
For me, I'll go with Learn and Assimilation. Learn is second-phase Deliverance at their peak. Assimilation should never have been a Deliverance album and is my least favorite by them, but it would be my favorite Fearful Symmetry album. I mentally file it in the same category as Holy Soldier - Promise Man.
