Believer or Vengeance Rising?

Which thrash band do you prefer?

For me, both have three albums I enjoy.

It’s a tough call, but I’m going with Believer. For one thing, The Trilogy of Knowledge is better than anything VR has done. But which band I gravitate towards on a given day may vary.

Vengeance. Not even a choice in my mind. HS and OD caught my eye in high school, while Believer's chaotic songs didn't do it for me. I tried to get into Believer numerous times in the last 20 years, and it's only in the past year I'm enjoying their music.

Tie, can´t vote. The first two albums of both bands are my most favourite albums ever.

The heavyness of Vengeance rising and the furious wild but yet extremely tight played
compositions of Believer are equally top-notch classics to me.

Never really liked VR. I only like the debut and it isn't something I truly enjoy even at that.

Believer was a favorite even in my pre-Christ listening days. The first three are a stellar trio.

Believer, no contest.

Their first album has more five star songs than what the whole Vengeance discography has.

I consider Dimensions Believer's worst album and even that has songs like Singularity and Trilogy of Knowledge that both blow most other metal bands away.

They are very different bands though.

And I am aware these are different bands. Otherwise the poll would’ve been something like Mainline Riders vs. AC/DC. Very Happy

Maybe I need to give both of these bands a chance. VR's vocals were off-putting to me. The only Believer album I have listened to more than once is Sanity Obscure, and I think it's overrated. Early Deliverance and Tqt are way better thrash than that.

My favorite VR album is the “fast and loose” Destruction Comes. I feel Extraction from Believer is better overall.

I don’t think either band can top TQT or Weapons.

I’d check out Released upon the Earth because Roger’s vocals are more tolerable on that one. For Believer, Extraction from Mortality is their most straightforward thrash. Dimensions is much more progressive, but you might like it since you like Pathogenic Ocular Dissonance. (Not that they sound alike, but they are both more complex and progressive than some of the others).

I also prefer Tourniquet´s Stop the bleeding a little more BUT I consider first Deliverance albums and Tourniquet more to be Speed Metal,
because their style is influenced by metal bands like Queensryche, Fates Warning, Rush, King Diamond, ...
They have more melody and traditional harmonies (classic metal).

Believer and Vengeance Rising are faster and more furious, the vocals are shouted and kind of barking. That makes them pure thrash for me
because their style is more influenced by punk and crossover (faster and a bit more raw)
The beats are faster, vocals are shouting (gang vocals) and guitars are technically more jazzy, bluesy, freestyle or experimental.

By the way Deliverance tried to combine these two styles on "What a joke" their only real thrash album.

Sanity Obscure is one of the greatest thrash albums ever. VR was excellent thrash ruined by horrible vocals. This was an easy vote for me.

Human Sacrifice and Once Dead are essential.

Destruction Comes is underrated romping Thrash.

Released Upon the Earth is fantastic Death-Thrash with awesome tunes, good lyrics. Really good.

I listened to Believer enough back in the day when options were limited. 30-35 years later...? Nothing sticks. They try too hard to be techy/proggy/whatever.
