Need a New Laptop

Welp my laptop had died. Any recommendations for a quality laptop, preferably not made in China? I'm not a gamer so it's just to store my music and photos, browse the internet, etc. Thanks!

I've bought my last 4 computers at Newegg. I use the Canadian site, but I'm sure the U.S. site is the same.

All 4 have been re-furbished computers--3 laptops and a desktop. I decide how much money I have to spend and then find the best bang for my buck at the time. Many of the sellers have a guarantee on their refurbished computers and I haven't had a lemon yet. For $500 CAD you can get a great computer. So I'm guessing that's about $300 US?

Right on.  I ended up opting to just have a new hard drive put in mine.  My laptop's a bit on the older side as far as their lives go, but this should keep it running for a few more years anyways.

You could also make sure the memory's topped up. I did that to a desktop a few years ago and it extended the lifetime as well.

The plan for next year is to upgrade with a new laptop.

I'm sometimes called upon by friends or family to help them find a new laptop since I do research every so often for myself.  Lately I have not had the time to do research.  Technology changes so frequently and new models appear and then are discontinued within a year.  It is tough to keep up even on a casual basis.
