Remember Cut-Out bins? Empty Remember Cut-Out bins?

Does anyone here remember the days of cut-out bins? They were these racks of records and tapes (and later, cds) which were sold at a significant discount and a hole punched in the upc so it couldnt be returned. There was a lot of dreck in there, but you could also find some hidden gems there. As it pertains to metal for example, I found Helloween's The Best, The Rest, The Rare and The Time of the Oath in one of these. Strangely, sometimes I'd find stuff in the cut-out bin that I dont recall the store I bought them in having when they were new releases.

Not metal, but I got Phil Keaggy "Jammed" on cassette from one of them. Other than that, I can't remember, 'cuz I'm too old and I'm going senile.

Like all of you, I’ve found some great stuff in these. Buying digitally or online is convenient, but the experience is lacking.

Similarly, I remember about 10 or so years ago when Wal-Mart was paring down their CD selection, they put a ton of stuff in bins for $5. I found some classic stuff that way. In fact, that was where most of my Sabbath collection came from.

Now that you mention Wal-mart, Pethead, some more memories come back. I picked up some Johny Cash and some orchestra & classical music for $5 each. And I've thoroughly enjoyed them all.

Of course, I used to be the king of the cut-out bins.  Would travel to other areas just to check out the discount racks and bins in malls, record shows, flea markets, etc.  And during the 90's, classic metal and hard rock were out of favor in the mainstream, so many items ended up in these bins for a few dollars.  I did go way overboard back then with the buying, but that is another story for another day.... Remember Cut-Out bins? 1f610
