Favorite Christian thrash sophomore album?
Note: demos do not count. So, if you wanna say Sacrament, you’re talking about Haunts of Violence, because Presumed Dead does not count.
Even though Tourniquet is my favorite metal band, my pick is Weapons of Our Warfare. It think it’s an absolute thrashterpiece.
Your turn!

I thought we’d have one coming soon!Black Rider wrote:Psychosurgery barely edges out Weapons. Speaking of sophomore albums, wish we'd get a new Ritual Servant.

Remember the day I got my grubby mitts on that beautiful album, ignored everyone in youth group and kept my cassette on loop in my walkman everywhere I went for years, that one album (mostly). Must've looked like a sad gloomy raven amongst all those bright lights. It's funny, in a way, Christian metal kept me at the fringe. Happy about that. And so have strong ties to this particular album.

That said, it doesn't stand out from the "freshman" release all that much, I like it the best but Human Sacrifice was also classic. So the one that stands out the most would be Weapons of Our Warfare, although that's partly based on that I'm not nearly as big of a fan of s/t as many here are, so to me the leap between the two was gargantuan.
Also, I hold some minority opinions that I like Extraction (WAY) better than Sanity Obscure, The Crucified s/t (WAY) better than Pillars, The Torment (WAY) better than Lament for the Weary.

Mosh-Pit Justice: Justice Is Served
Betrayal: The Passing
Boarders: R-Existence

Temple of Blood: Overlord
Thresher: Here I Am (if this counts; Metal-archives lists Totally Possessed as a demo, so it might not)
Viking: Man of Straw

Sanity Obscured
If But One
Haunts of Violence , one of my all time favs
Once Dead
Lament for the Weary
The Passing
Weapons
Phychosurgery
Saint Spirit - The Ways of Faith
but Im actually going with Adorned Graves - Being Towards a River. This is such a good album and to me the strongest followup to a debut. They took such a leap from the debut!

Re: Favorite Christian thrash sophomore album?
I was out of my mind excited when I first got Weapons. It was back in college and most of these albums hadn't been reissued yet. I had gotten into secular thrash, but at that time I felt the need to listen to only Christian music. I had some Christian thrash albums, but not a lot. Being a sucker for melodic thrash, when I first popped Weapons into my CD player, I was blown away. Here was an album that sounded like the secular releases I loved without being a pale imitation. I've loved it ever since.CrimsonWarrior wrote:Weapons is, at this point, just my absolute favorite album. So this is an easy choice for me.

Once Dead barely beast Weapons which barely beast Psychosurgery.
But I've listened to Once Dead most recently.

I feel the same but not as strongly about Believer and The Crucified. Prefer Once Dead over HS tho, by a hair.crucifyd wrote:Grindboy wrote:Also, I hold some minority opinions that I like Extraction (WAY) better than Sanity Obscure, The Crucified s/t (WAY) better than Pillars, The Torment (WAY) better than Lament for the Weary.

And I went to Cornerstone '93, right after reading in Heaven's Metal that they'd broken up. Crushed! IIRC Marc and Jim and maybe somebody else (it wasn't like I knew guys and could recongnize them) came out and did a song after the Living Sacrifice set. And then again, actually, during what was billed as the Living Sacrifice set in. . . I think '01 on Tooth and Nail day, Marc and maybe others did Mindbender with LS. As close as I ever got!
