I like these guys quite a bit. They've been pretty solid throughout their career.

1. Elegy (I had only heard Karelian Isthmus before this album and was like "that's the same band??!!" - fantastic album.
2. Silent Waters
3. Tales From the Thousand Lakes
4. Tuonela
5. Eclipse

I haven't heard their last couple of albums yet.

All great albums. Think Isthmus is different try Privilege of evil, the one before it. Straight up death metal
Glad they changed. Karelian is a top album though.  Just gonna drop a few songs for anyone that wants to listen to some newer stuff.

I really only know Tales, Skyforger and Eclipse, all decent but they kinda feel like Dark Tranquility lite.

I like Tales for coolness reasons and it is quite good.

Queen of Time is an absolute masterpiece.

I need to get (re)acquainted with their other stuff.

Really? Fair enough. I'd debate, gently, that's it's the other way around. Atoma is probably the closest they sound like Amorphis, particularly in the vocal department. And Eclipse was out years before that album when Tomi changed up the game. All those keyboard sounds, Amorphis were doing that since tales, and elegy to Eclipse changed it up again to the sound they have now. But really, even though there are similarities here and there, I think they overall sound quite different from each other.

Man Queen of Time is mind blowing. Red cloud too. And do enjoy Halo. Tales of course, well what more needs to be said about that one.

I'm not saying they're clones and Amorphis is quality but both are are dipping from the same well and I like DT better. I should spend more time with Amorphis, see if it grabs me.

Yeah fair enough too. With Amorphis, try out red cloud and Queen of time albums might be good places to start if you wish.

At the moment I only own Elegy and Under the Red Cloud, especially the latter still blows me away.

The next ones on my wishlist are:
-Eclipse
-Skyforger
-Queen of Time

Does that sound like good choices by the connaisseurs around here?

It's been a while since I've listened to Amorphis but my favorite is Under The Red Cloud.
I Just like the way the whole album flows.  After that would be Eclipse, Queen of Time, and Skyforger.
If I remember correctly, I sampled Halo but it sounded like Queen of Time Part II.

Yes I'm familiar with Privilege Of Evil, although I don't think I got around to hearing it until the late 90s or early 00s. Timo Tolkki from Stratovarius was the engineer on that EP. Glad they went in a more melodic doom/death direction for Karelian Isthmus.

Under the red cloud, Queen of time, and Halo are part of a trilogy. That's perhaps why the covers are done in the same style and set apart from their other works. Some great tunes on Halo. It's more of a grower (so I found) than Queen of time and Red cloud but once it settles in it's a ripper.
