Rearranging album tracks... Empty Rearranging album tracks...

Post by Soldier777 Fri Dec 30, 2022 7:14 pm

Does anyone own any albums that start off a bit slow with the first track or 2 or the first song isn't the best and if arranged would be a better album? Here are a few examples:

Petra: Never Say Die:

Angel of Light
Never Day Die (Usually title tracks are the first or second track)
Coloring Song
Chameleon
Father of Lights

Praise Ye The Lord
Killing My Old Man
I Can be Friends With You
For Annie
Without Him We Can do Nothing

Bloodgood debut

Anguish and Pain
Accept the Lamb
Stand in the Light
Awake
You Loose

Soldier of Peace
Demon on the Run (this song can be left off as a weak track or put next to Soldier of Peace as a demon would be on the run after confronting an armed Christian as a running theme)
What's Following the Grave
Killing the Beast
Black Snake

Stryper Murder By Pride:

Murder By Pride
4 Leaf Clover
Piece of Mind
Alive
I Believe
The Plan

Everything
Run In You
Love is Why
Eclipse of the Son
Mercy Over Blame
My Love I'll Always Show

Eclipse for the Son was a poor choice as the lead track. That track and Mercy Over Blame can be left off for a better 10 song album. What do you think?

I think A LOT of bands would be better with a rearranged tracklisting.

I did this myself when I remastered "Overlord" and I think it helped.

Especially because in the era of cassettes/vinyl they tried to have strong songs at the beginning of side A/B and the end of side B, which lead to weaker songs coming before that.  People just don't have the attention span for that anymore.  Put your songs in order of greatness (with some considerations for variations in styles to keep from being too repetitive).

Not a simple rearranging, but I would love to see a release of What a Joke without the jokes.

The tracks I would suggest:
Prophet of Idiocy
Pseudo intellectual
What a Joke
It is the Beat
A product of Society
J I.G.
Attack

Mine would be:

1. Prophet Of Idiocy
2. Pseudo Intellectual
3. What A Joke
4. Chipped Beef
5. It's The Beat
6. A Product Of Society
7. J.I.G.
8. Purgatory Sandwich With Mustard
9. Attack

I'd have to keep tracks 4 and 8 in there because those riffs are just so good!

Stryper - Live at the Whisky
Just the (obligatory) encore tracks. I like "To Hell With the Devil" better than "Soldiers Under Command" (album and song...) so it ends on a song I like better. Also think the concert ends better with the last M. Sweet scream. I guess you could say now the album ends on a high note...

My version of Crawl to China on CD with that awful white cover has Clautrospelunker as the opening track, and it is quite of a buzz kill.

I saw on Spotify that the new version has a different order, and the opening track is White knuckling the rosary that is cool.
I could live well without two or three songs on this album. Maybe songs like america and Bats wouldn't be missed.

I don't rearrange tracks, but I do omit them sometimes.  If there is a song I really don't like or don't think it fits the release, then I just remove it.

That's what I usually do, exceptions being the aforementioned Stryper live album and the latest One Bad Pig album. I have no love whatsoever for "OMG", but ending my Pig playlist in Tumbleweed is a major letdown. Easy solution, "Red, White or Blue (Colour Me)" goes on the end.

I do it occasionally when listening to newer albums repeatedly over a few days, but mostly just because I tend to get different feelings about some of the songs in a different order. I like trying out an album in reverse order, since a lot of bands seem to put filler near the end.  If I'm bored listening to the last four songs first then maybe it isn't going to be that great of an album

Amen!

I still usually listen to the physical CDs so between that and laziness I don't rearrange.  I totally agree that a rock/metal band leading off an album with a ballad is a bad idea.
