Favorite Deep Purple album?
I can’t argue with In Rock, Machine Head, or Burn. All are awesome. I also like several others a lot.
But my favorite is actually Stormbringer. The bluesy vibe fits Coverdale and Hughes like a glove and there is a good variety of great tunes on here.
You?

Burn easily followed by Stormbringer. The Battle Rages On is probably third and I don't see it mentioned much. My favorite song is, When a Blind Man Cries.

I love The Battle Rages On. It might be my pick for most underrated. The title track, Anya, Time to Kill, A Twist in the Tale, Nasty Piece of Work, and Solitaire are all some of my favorite DP tunes.Black Rider wrote:Burn easily followed by Stormbringer. My very favorite song is Mad Dog.

I confess to not being too familiar with their full albums, just songs here and there.
However now I'm curious to check out Stormbringer and a few others.
One of my favorite songs from them is "Perfect Strangers." It's just so unique.

Re: Favorite Deep Purple album?
Deep Purple is another band I love!! A very important band in my musical journey.
Favorite:
Machine Head.
My dad had that album and it was pretty much my introduction to hard & heavy music. I always begged him to put that record on as well as the first Boston album. I think I was about 3 or so LOL!
Least:
They don't really have an album that I outright dislike.
Hmmmm....maybe...Shades Of Deep Purple?
I do love that early proto-prog era of the band, though!

When I was pre-teen, Deep Purple was one of the heaviest bands around along with Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Bad Company, etc. Yes, this was in the days of cavemen and dinosaurs, lolMagnusPrime wrote:My dad had that album and it was pretty much my introduction to hard & heavy music. The "bad kids" at school were into Deep Purple but aside from "Smoke On The Water" and "Space Truckin'," they did not get much airplay and I didn't really bond with them like I did with other bands. That is probably why I sort of ignored them for the most part.
But yes..."Smoke" and "Highway Star" were among my introductions to heavy music at the time too.
I ended up liking Rainbow better...especially that "On Stage" album (1977) with Dio and Blackmore.

For me, very few bands beat Rainbow with Dio.Constantine wrote:When I was pre-teen, Deep Purple was one of the heaviest bands around along with Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Bad Company, etc. Yes, this was in the days of cavemen and dinosaurs, lolMagnusPrime wrote:My dad had that album and it was pretty much my introduction to hard & heavy music.
