Angelica S/T production mistake?
So, I've been listening to the first Angelica albums this week, and paid special attention to When Will I Ever Learn, as Pethead said it's his favourite song on that album.
I think I may have found a production mistake. Seeing as I've never noticed it before, it's either not a mistake or they covered it up very well! Here it is:
The last phrase of the second verse--"I've got to try", 1:39-42"--it seems Rob Rock is singing to a different chord than the guitarist is playing. But he does it with such confidence most people wouldn't notice!
I'm wondering if the song arrangement changed during the recording process but they didn't get Rob to re-record post-change; and so in the final mix they just put both together and hoped for the best.
And it obviously worked, as I've listened to the album probably 30-40 times (if not more) through the years, and never noticed.
Well....am I out to lunch, or have others heard it as well?

Oh, I just remembered that there could be multiple versions of this album. I'm pretty sure I have the original, non-remastered version.

Yeah, there are some out of key vocals on there.
And it sure sounds like a drum machine.

Re: Angelica S/T production mistake?
It looks like Rob was brought in as a replacement and did his vocals in 3 days. That might explain it.

I give Rob Rock props for coming in on very short notice to save the album. He did a good job under the circumstances. It wasn’t his songwriting, so I imagine that it’s hard to have the proper emotional investment to sing the words with the same conviction of his later solo albums.

Re: Angelica S/T production mistake?
Thanks for the comments! I wasn't really familiar with Rob Rock until a few years ago (I know, I know, it makes me look like a newbie!). I've always enjoyed the vocals but didn't know the history of it.
Christian Molten Metal also talks about the vocalist issues on the album. Quote, "Their debut was released on Intense Records with Ken Tamplin being hired to produce the vocals for the album as a "vocal coach". Dennis Cameron brought on frontman-Andy Lyon who had previously handled lead vocals on their two demos. After having been pushed by Tamplin to perform at a higher level, Andy soon became "burned out" and then parted ways leaving the band at the studio without a lead singer. Ken Tamplin then suggested that they contact Rob Rock feeling that Rob's vocal style would work nicely with the band's arrangements. Rob agreed to help the band even though he was at the time recording vocals for 'Driver'. Rob often came to the studio, with a swollen throat to sing vocals for Angelica but always hammered his lines out like a real trooper."
Another quote which I wasn't aware of either, "As a bonus, the last track on the album track-12 "Face To Face" was performed by frontman-Ken Tamplin and is very reminiscent of his work from 'Shout' who had just previously released their debut album before this project."
Pethead, the AngelicWarlord review you posted adds more info on Rob Rock's vocals that explains how this "glitch" could have come to pass.
