Eastern Orthodox Metal Musicians?
Okay guys help me out here:
So I know about Bill Tsamis from Warlord, Victor Macias from Tourniquet, Justin Marler from Sleep, Pilgrim from Crimson Moonlight...
Are there any other musicians out there who are Eastern Orthodox Christians?
Thank you!

Thanks for replying guys
Yeah, I have the Hesychast CD. It's very good! Love it!
Anyone else?
I keep wondering if any of the members of Batushka might have been / were / are maybe? Doesn't seem like it, but their lyrics are pretty legit from what I have read so far.
not an expert though....

Re: Eastern Orthodox Metal Musicians?
Eatbugs beat me to Hesychast!
Also Gospod though IIRC the main guy behind the band is not religious; all the Orthodox elements come from the singer who I got the impression is more of a studio vocalist than fulltime member, but someone should fact-check me on that.
I got the impression that Batushka is in it just for the aesthetics. Some of their other lyrics were quite anti-Christian I believe. (That being said, which Batushka do you mean? ) I see the draw towards Eastern/Russian Orthodox for metalheads, as the aesthetics and tendencies towards mysticism do have some overlap with that of metal culture.

Not a true fact-check, but I don't get that impression at all. The Israel's Exodus CD is openly religious and everything on Facebook and Bandcamp seems explicitly Orthodox.

Re: Eastern Orthodox Metal Musicians?
^Thanks. So I went back to find what I was remembering seeing on their FB page and was somewhat incorrect. The main guy seems to have some sort of faith though is "not a church person, just a musician" - whatever that means...

Gospod Facebook wrote:Who is behind the project?
George is the main acting figure in video clips. He has a basic theological education (RPC), because I believe that without it it it is very difficult to understand the whole essence and fullness of Christ's faith. He is fully aware of the genre and the field on which the project is operating. Undoubtedly, this project is far from the church, but it is convinced that it can exist and carry the word of God, even in this genre.
("About sermons at rock concerts" (Moscow, October 12, 2010) was spoken by the Holy Patriarch of all Russia Kirill himself).
We live in a modern world, and this project has a soul, and as many have noticed, in its own way "God-pleasing".
As far as religious practice and worldview are concerned, George is close to the Pomeranian accord of the Ancient Orthodox Church (Old Belief). This is due to certain circumstances, as he lives abroad, far from the settlement.
He has recently engaged in icon painting. Work and participation in this project pushed him, and one may say inspired him to study Icon Painting.
I suppose everyone will also be interested in how we started our joint activities with George?
God works in mysterious ways. The acquaintance occurred in the summer of 2020. One of the communities advised George to listen to several compositions, and he immediately liked the sound. After that he wrote to me and we immediately got along.
As for me, I'm not a church person, I'm just a musician. Yet, I was moved by the Lord to do such work, albeit in such a specific way. My work resonated with George in his soul and he began to guide me little by little, since he sincerely wanted the project to become as close as possible to the canon, to the church. I also follow George's instructions, he follows my ideas, and we are both moving in the same direction.

Unless I’m mistaken—it happens roughly once a decade—Tommy Green, formerly of Sleeping Giant is now EO. Check out his latest project, which is metal/drone/worship:
Re: Eastern Orthodox Metal Musicians?
If a consumer only wanted music from musicians that are Eastern Orthodox, their music collection would be extremely small.

Ironically, Gospod posted this yesterday as part of a larger post:
"3. We will no longer focus only on Orthodox topics. We decided to move on our own path, based on the experience of religions. Like a sage who chose his path, we have chosen our own way. It will be a full-fledged story."
"7. In the next month we will change the design, description and POSSIBLY the name of the group, and of course we will introduce you the concept of the new album and ideas."

^Interesting though I can't say I'm necessarily surprised. I'll be curious to learn more of what direction they go.

Re: Eastern Orthodox Metal Musicians?
Asking for musicians who are Orthodox does not equate to only listening to music by Orthodox Christians. There was literally no indication at any point in the thread that the OP only listened to Orthodox artists or that he would throw out all his secular albums. Thus the disconnect.

Re: Eastern Orthodox Metal Musicians?
It was mostly meant as a “tongue in cheek” sarcastic comment. I wasn’t very serious!
If it doesn’t apply, it’s a moot point. I should have just made it clear it was sarcasm!
Sorry if you are offended or upset.
