Kärv (black metal)

I recently discovered Kärv (thanks Deepfriar!) and was immediately blown away by them.  Admittedly, I've been getting a little tired of most black metal lately but this is fresh and very well done.  Come the next Bandcamp Friday, this is at the top of my list.  Check it out!

I'm far from being an expert at genre classification, but post black (like any post-*genre name*) is when a genre adds multiple elements from other (more different) genres. Like you mix black metal and punk, its probably going to be called blackened punk. ....but if you mix ambient, rock, punk, doom and black metal, its going to be called 'post-black' instead of trying to name the genre from all the elements in it.

Exhibit A, firing up track 2 of the Kärv album mentioned in this thread, it opens with a doom riff and clean singing. 2 minutes into the track sounds downright thrashy. These are certainly not characteristics of black metal.

This EP sounds great! The first track gave me more post-black vibes than the other three but they all sounded great. I tend to think of post-black as having a "brighter" sound than black metal...but I really don't know how else to describe it, lol.

^Honestly I had only listened to the first track when I posted this and I totally agree.  Well, black, post-black, progressive post-crust-core blackened power folk, or whatever it may be, it's darn good!  The lyrics are very well written too.

Ha! Well how 'bout that! Post Black Metal that sounds like regular old black metal.

I gave this EP an attentive listening while driving today. It's really great! I hope Kärv continues to make music because I would love to hear a full-length. I wonder if this is a one-man project or a full band.

I'm looking forward to that split. I also really like Duister Maanlicht (at least, his three most recent albums).

^I've never delved into DM but I look forward to hearing their material on this split too.  I'll wait for the next Bandcamp Friday to make the purchase.
