It's a battle between Maiden and Megadeth.

When it's about secular metal only I'll go with Amorphis.

^I saw Amorphis live back in ~2007 when Virgin Black opened for them.  They put on a fantastic show.  I remember being particularly impressed by their singer windmilling with his massive dreadlocks haha.

I've seen them live three years later in 2010 - they are a great live band.
In the 1990s Amorphis got me into growling vocals with their "Tales from the thousand lakes" album.

I don't have a favorite band.  Favorite genre though is U.S. power metal.

I love their first couple/early stuff, the melodic viking DEATH METAL. Their later stuff which had little to no DM in it...annoys me, lol! Particularly cause their early DM stuff was so friggin heavy and good ...yet it had a unique melody that was not in much DM at the time, very fresh.
The first time I heard them way back in the early 90s was on the Nuclear Blast *death is just the beginning 2* compilation(song- Exile of the sons of Uisliu), and the song from them on it was one of my faves on the comp. Still have that comp on cassette.
The only album I own right now is the karellian isthmus album(which kicks so much but, lol). They and Unleashed(one of my fave DM bands, own several album's and a shirt) pioneered Viking DM(Unleashed stayed that course, Amorphis didn't), there would be no viking DM if not for those two.

Van Halen, has been since high school.

My three favorite secular bands are still my favorites from when I was a teenager:

1.  AC/DC
2.  Twisted Sister
3.  KISS

Van Halen (Diamond Dave Era), Dio, Dream Theater, Iron Maiden and Megadeth are all tied for 1st with me..

I really have a hard time saying what my one favourite band/album/song is. In this case I would play it safe and mention the following:

Blind Guardian
Freedom Call
Rhapsody (pre-split)

Tesla.

Not a single bad song in their vast catalog.

Does it have to be one band? Saturnus and Cradle Of Filth

King's x (Like their music, you can't pigeon hole these guys) and Amorphis.  Queen of time is a trip of an album-- go watch the bee video and amongst stars,

Red cloud is a great album too. As much as I love their early albums, I am glad they evolved.

I'm not sure if this counts where they had and currently have christian members, but mine is Impellitteri. If that don't count, I'll go with Dream Theater.
