Michael Sweet - “Shine” (new song)

Good grief! This new album sounds like it’s gonna smoke! Another great new song! 

So far it's better then the last Stryper album.

I’m loving this new solo music from Mike. I think this will be one of his best albums ever.

I started listening to it but it's not really my style.  What's up with the lyrics though?  Michael, where ya at?    I'd love to hear his thoughts behind them.  At first glance, they seem very "find your own power within" which is arguably a rather un-Christian concept.  I didn't finish the video so maybe they shift later on.  Or does someone have a different take on the lyrics?

I thought that too, but later on in the song there are lyrics indicating that the song is directed to believers.

I don't hear an in your face Christian message.  The song is mostly written to be a "keep your chin up" positive song.  However, the line in the chorus about all we have to do is shine reminds me of Jesus' words that we are the light of the world.  You remember the whole city on a hill illustration. I feel that he is telling us a little covertly to let Christ shine through us.  That is the only way we will prevent the world running us through.

I watched the whole video and the lyrics make a little more sense in full context.  It doesn't fit with the concept of "total depravity" but I think I understand more where he's coming from in this song.

Good song but the kick drum sounds annoying and way too loud in the mix

Collective Soul and Precious Death both had a better “Shine”.

Ha, I still like Shine by Collective Soul.

Eh... I don't really like it. Found it to be kind of boring and turned it off after a couple minutes. I'll take his self titled over this. My favorite Mike Sweet solo is Truth.

I like it! I also appreciate the encouraging lyrics about who we are in Christ since I struggle with panic, anxiety and stuff.
