Question for singers

What type of monitors should I use?  Are the in ear ones better than the stage monitors?

I'm not a vocalist but we use in ears at our church.  I can't remember the brand I got but they are pretty good for being medium quality.  I can imagine a set of pro in-ears would be amazing.  The nice thing about using them is that the amount of stage noise is greatly reduced and everyone can control their own mix.
