Superjuice wrote:Yeah, I used to listen to them on YouTube, but they quit doing long-form broadcasts and it's mostly just skits. Any idea what happened? Maybe long-form is just for Bee subscribers?Second Wind wrote:I like them and follow their YouTube channel. Really good content and I love their political content, as well. You know, on the other side there are too many satires, so it is good to see someone giving a few punchs back.
Okay, I've discovered their long-form content after much detective work (aka 3-5 clicks on Youtube). They made a separate account about 7 months for long-form broadcasts. Looks like I got about 100 hrs of video to catch up on... https://www.youtube.com/@TheBabylonBeePodcast/videos

"Christian satire that isn't hostile toward the faith" is a novel concept and they did it in an enjoyable way. The site is, to me, nothing now except another nail in the coffin of the Church on earth - from a spiritual/religious congregation to a PAC.
I agree. It always touched on politics, but in the last few years it seem to become too much. Interestingly the guy that started it, had started a news site that was supposed to give you straight news with not much spin, and then they went heavy on politics and ended up merging with Not the Bee.

If you're going to be hateful, at least turn it torward abortionists.Pethead wrote:I also find the political ones to often have too much of a hateful edge to them. Now what is going on in our culture is ridiculous and we should call out sin, but in doing so we have to be careful to manifest the fruit of the Spirit rather than of the flesh. After all, we wrestle not against flesh and blood and the weapons of our warfare are not carnal. (Cue Deliverance).

Wildcat wrote:They were really funny when they started out. They filled a good niche in poking fun at certain aspects of modern church culture, but in a mostly good natured manner that could only come from those within the church and stood apart from the more overtly contemptuous tone you often get when something like The Onion touches on Christianity.
Sadly, I’ve pretty much lost all interest in them over the past year or two as they focus more and more on political content. Most of it just isn’t that clever or funny compared to their work on other topics, and the completely one-sided, sometimes outright inflammatory, nature of a lot of it is really off-putting to me.
Couldn't disagree more, politics and religion have always crossed paths, in fact, they directly intersected at the Cross! The current political administration is at war with the Church!

And from a humor standpoint, Political humor doesnt age that well (look at some of the Political cartoons from the turn of the century, you'll be scratching your head unless you're a HUGE history nerd).deathisgain wrote:nocturnaliridescence wrote:I liked this site a lot more when they were only Christianity-themed satire.
