Re: Currently reading?
Same thing with the podcast I mentioned; they go into a lot of depth in 2nd Temple literature and Church Fathers, as well as a lot of the old (i.e. over a thousand years) hymnography, which accompany the cycle of Scripture readings, that we will still use in services today.Raegoul wrote:I forgot to mention on of Heiser’s main points is that we should read Scripture from the point of view of its authors and not with a 21 century mindset. He spends a lot of time explaining how this worldview looked like. That was a real ete opener for me.
I had forgotten that they put out a book last year. Now I have one more to add to the stack.

The Oath looks really cool, I might read that one next. Have you read the Cooper Kids series? That was my introduction to him and still holds up even now that I prefer stories aimed at older people.Pethead wrote:^^I actually liked the one a tad bit more than This Present Darkness. My favorite of his is actually The Oath.

If you ever end up getting your hands on them they're worth a read even if you're above the age demographic.Pethead wrote:I have not. I didn’t start reading him until college.

Yep. My favorite's probably either Tombs of Anak or The Deadly Curse of Toco-Rey. I love all eight though (Flying Blind/Mayday at 25,000 isn't as interesting as the others, but I still very much enjoy it)Sevenoneself wrote:StevenCressler wrote:If you ever end up getting your hands on them they're worth a read even if you're above the age demographic.Pethead wrote:I have not. That last one must be a later edition; I don't remember it at all.

Re: Currently reading?
He released another four after the original four, they aren't as well known. They're The Secret of the Desert Stone, The Deadly Curse of Toco-Rey, The Legend of Anne Murphy, and Mayday at 25,000 (originally called Flying Blind). I prefer the first four overall, but these are still awesome, especially TDCoTRSevenoneself wrote:StevenCressler wrote:Yep. Currently Reading:
This is What Happened by Roger Dale Martin
Schoolcraft's Indian Legends. Native American stories collected by Henry Schoolcraft.
Still picking through The Complete Works of Josephus. I'll finish it someday.
The Kings of Israel and Judah by George Rawlinson. I'm currently in 2 Kings in my personal Bible study and it's helping me quite a bit. It harmonizes the accounts of the kings of the divided monarchies from the books of Kings, Chronicles, and the relevant prophets.

» Why? From Charlie Daniels. I enjoyed reading his perspective.
» A (mildly) dramatic reading of "The Test For Leprosy" by Ted Kirkpatrick
