Re: TOP 10: Favorite Non-Metal Albums
Hmmm... Might actually be a little hard to do but I will try. I have so many that I like and will have to do it off the top of my head.
1 - Styx - Paradise Theater
2 - Journey - Evolution
3 - The Outfield - Play Deep
4 - Vince Guaraldi - A Charlie Brown Christmas
5 - Beatles - Abbey Road
6 - Pink Floyd - Animals
7 - Bad Company - Self Titled
8 - Rush - Permanent Waves
9 - Bryan Adams - Reckless (which I haven't listened to in a LONG time and it is chock full of hits. I have it on vinyl and need to play it sometime).
10 - Boston - Debut
I tried not to repeat any bands to keep a variety. And I am sure this list would change on any particular day except for the #1 slot, that is my favorite album ever.

Let me pose everybody a question.... if this were asked again in 6 months do you think any of your current picks would change? I think for me it would not all of them but at least a couple of them. Anybody else this way?

Pink Floyd - Darkside of the Moon
Pink Floyd - Meddle
Metric - Fantasies
David Bowie- Low
David Bowie- Ziggy Stardust
Foo Fighters - ST
Scott Weiland - 12 Bar Blues
Stone Temple Pilots - Tiny Music Gifts From the Vatican Gift Shop
Violet Burning - Demonstrates Plastic & Elastic / This is the Moment (tie)

Not much would change on mine. Styx, The Outfield, Rush and Pink Floyd would probably remain on my list. In fact I am thinking right now Zeppelin III belongs on my list so it could change from hour to hour.

Re: TOP 10: Favorite Non-Metal Albums
I hear ya, depends on my mood for music, theres times like right now where its David Bowie all the time. Theres times for me its Pink Floyd all the time. Just depends I guess. I think the core ones for me Bowie, Floyd will never change but Id say the last 3 might be in flux for me.

Re: TOP 10: Favorite Non-Metal Albums
Yeah, my list would be pretty consistent. Might be one or two different in 6 months time. Depends I guess on if I found any albums that would overturn any of these.

Re: TOP 10: Favorite Non-Metal Albums
By far, my two favorite non-metal albums are Turn it Around by Comeback Kid and Walk Home by Willows. Two fantastic, heartfelt hardcore albums.
I also really like Circle of Dust's debut, but that's industrial rock, which apparently some people think is metal. So I don't know if that really fits here. But I definitely would not call CoD a metal band.
2146 by Sabled Sun is a really cool dark ambient album, so that's worth mentioning.
If we jump into the realm of EDM, there were two acts called Varien and 7 Minutes Dead that collaborated and created an awesome EP called Mirai Sekai. It has a super futuristic sound and I love it.
I guess this wasn't much of a list, nor was it ten albums, but hey, it works.

Re: TOP 10: Favorite Non-Metal Albums
I agree that Circle of Dust's first album was Industrial Rock, not Metal. However, their follow-up, Brainchild-Mindwarp is totally Industrial Metal.
Then their stuff afterwards is pretty Metal too. Even the re-recording of the debut.

Re: TOP 10: Favorite Non-Metal Albums
Eh...I guess you could call Brainchild metal (but that's still really stretching it) but I'd say that Disengage is certainly not metal.
I actually prefer the re-recording of the debut. Though I do miss tracks like Exploration and Technological Disguise, the re-recorded version of Nothing Sacred (which is my favorite CoD song) is so much better than the original. I'm really glad that they took Amazing Grace out of the end of it, because that was really bad and broke the mood in the original.

Re: TOP 10: Favorite Non-Metal Albums
I like this topic so am resurrecting this ancient post.
I typically prefer to list favorite songs rather than records, since most of my all-time favorite songs are on records with a lot of filler.
But here are some favorite non-metal full records. I am deliberately excluding "Best Of" albums because otherwise I'd be tempted to make them all best-of's:
1. Seal - Seal II (1994)
2. The Police - Synchronicity
3. The Fixx - Elemental
4. Billy Squier - Don't Say No
5. Alanis Morissette - Jagged Little Pill
6. Toto - XIV
7. Steely Dan - Aja
8. Henry Paul Band - Grey Ghost
9. Elton John - Don't Shoot Me, I'm Only The Piano Player
10. Annie Lennox - Medusa

That's dedication. I don't think anyone stuck with The Fixx after 1985.

Re: TOP 10: Favorite Non-Metal Albums
Even with only one album per band (which I'm doing now) this should be easy. Ranking is more difficult, but here goes:
1: Neal Morse - One
2: Toto - The Seventh One
3: Caravan - In the Land of Grey and Pink
4: Yes - Close to the Edge
5: Camel - Mirage
6: The Moody Blues - Days of Future Passed
7: Bon Jovi - Slippery When Wet
8: ZZ Top - Eliminator
9: Clive Nolan & Oliver Wakeman - The Hound of the Baskervilles
10: Tuomas Holopainen - The Life and Times of Scrooge

That's interesting! Whenever I see "Guest" on old posts, I always assume they are no longer here.Erasmus wrote:I read this thread and was amazed that someone in 2016 had exactly the same taste in music as me, only to realise it was me under an old username, now "Guest".
Now I know that isn't always the case
I dont own enough for a top 10
I couldn't mention a top ten, since I've never listened to or owned any full albums from any non metal artists aside from a few artists. Though I enjoy most forms I'd music when I hear them.
My top non metal artist is Jewel of whom I own 3 albums from, my favorite being her album *this way*.
Unless you count Evanescence as nonmetal, which most count them as metal but many metal elitists would say they arent, I think they are on the verge of metal but are more so dark gothic hard rock, I own their first two albums. My favorite being their 2nd one.
I also own a best of Platinum Blonde, a best if Heart(and one actual album on tape), and a best of Michael Jackson album. And I own a best if the Rolling Stones.
That's about it.
