Re: Minier s/t is much better than The Crucified
I’m a big fan of the Crucified! They were the first Christian band I took seriously. I actually thought they were better than most secular bands. After reading through this thread, I’m very disappointed with ToB’s dismissive comments. How can you listen to the Crucified and not hear the power? They are the very definition of crossover thrash! They were a great mix of Slayer and DRI. The Pillars album is like Sacred Reich meets Pantera. Their music is meant to be heard as a cohesive whole, not someone just focusing on the guitar only. The Intro to Hateworld is a mosh anthem like March of the SOD. It’s awesome! I also love the Minier solo disc!
No offense, but Mark’s vocals are much easier to listen to than a strange operatic voice. I guess it’s just personal taste.
How is the beginning of this song not Slayer influenced? It sounds exactly like an outtake from Reign in Blood.

I also have the original REX copy and the new reissue. The bonus tracks are great. How did you find those? Another interesting note is that Greg had the opportunity to add bass guitar to the new master but chose to leave it alone. Apparently, he thinks AJFA by Metallica sounds good without the bass and he decided to do the same.

I like AJFA, but it could be cool to have an official version with Newsted’s bass turned up.

It sounds GOOD with no bass. It would have sounded EXCELLENT with some bass guitar in the mix.

That is just so cool. When I was unsaved I encountered a few Christian metal albums that played a role in leading me toward Christ.BaleMaster wrote:I have it. I donated my original to the local library, so hopefully an unsaved person hears the Gospel through it and at least a seed is planted.

I'm very glad this thread got resurrected as I hadn't really listened to Minier or The Crucified before, but they both sound great!

if memory serves, wasn't Applehead kind of a grungy rock sort of album. I'd check it out on youtube but can't use sound at the moment. I remember Crucified's Pillar of Humanity laden with thrashy riffs and hardcore typr vocals. It's a killer album from what I recall. They were pretty much straight punk before that I think... to answer the question though, I'd take The Crucified in my opinion.

I love that Apple head album! I wish Greg would do another!

Applehead needs a proper remaster.

I also support the idea of a remaster of the Applehead album. I enjoy everything Greg Minier has been a part of. I think he is a great guitarist (and vocalist)!
