Djent a genre?
Is djent a genre?
I'm going to say yes. Now, I don't think it is its own genre, but rather an extremely progressive and technical form of death metal.

Isn’t djent mostly instrumental? Not too familiar with it but I have heard of it as a genre

Re: Is djent a genre?
Not mostly instrumental and I'd call it a sub genre of death metal and it's mostly a wankfest. After The Burial is the only one I can handle for more than a song or two.

It depends. Meshuggah has plenty of vocals. It does have long instrumental passages, like prog. It just depends on the band really. My favorite djent (Meshuggah and Chorder, a Christian band) have vocals.seth wrote:Isn’t djent mostly instrumental? Not too familiar with it but I have heard of it as a genre

A muted, staccato playing technique is not a genre. If that is a genre, then so is Palm Muting and Finger Picking.

You realize that lots and lots of genres are defined by the techniques used? Thrash metal: fast palm muted riffs, crazy solos. Death metal: fast tremolo picking riffs and blast beats. etc.Xid wrote:A muted, staccato playing technique is not a genre. If that is a genre, then so is Palm Muting and Finger Picking.

Listened to a couple Meshuggah songs a while back, and based on those I would have to agree. I’d say even worse than metalcoreTemple of Blood wrote:Yes, a horrible one.

I also realize that if a band played any one of the 1,049 "genres" of metal, but only used pink guitars, it would be called Pink Guitar Metal.

Since all of their guitars weren't pink, they would be banned from the genre and ridiculed mercilessly.
