Spotify Wrapped 2024

My Wrapped for 2024 was not at all surprising.

My top artists were:

1. Judas Priest
2. Saxon
3. Stryper
4. Whiteheart
5. Petra

Top songs were

Judas Priest “The Serpent and the King”
Judas Priest “Panic Attack”
Judas Priest “Invincible Shield”
Judas Priest “As God is My Witness”
Judas Priest “Devil in Disguise”

I could live with that list.

There’s a lot of talk online about how bad Wrapped was this year, from a design perspective, an information perspective, and an accuracy perspective. I mentioned above how off my songs list was, but I have another example. 

My wife doesn’t listen to nearly as much music as I do, but she has one artist she plays probably 5 or so mornings a week. They weren’t even in her top 5 on Wrapped.

Yeah something did seem a bit off. I did listen to Flood a decent amount, but them being my top artist for the year doesn’t seem accurate

Yep. And as much as I love funeral doooooom, there’s no way I listened to that Evoken song more than Ghosts in the Mist.

One of my months said I was “all about Tom Howe,” whom I’ve never listened to. And because I do full albums and not playlists, I wouldn’t have even accidentally heard him.

I’ve also noticed their “fans also like”/similar artists sections are all out of whack, especially for lesser known artists. Showing a bunch of random bands I’ve never heard of when they used to show actual similar artists. Which is too bad since that feature is how I found a lot of my favorite music when first getting into metal

Their recommended albums lately have been kinda bad. And in previous days I found some favorite bands that way.

My Spotify wrapped was pretty accurate.

Another screwup from spotify: the other day I checked my Release Radar playlist to see if anything new came out, and whose profile pic was at the top of the playlist but Tourniquet! I knew there was no way there was actually any new Tourniquet music, but part of me had a bit of hope they released something Ted was working on before he died. Sure enough, however, it was just some singles from some random band that Spotify had mistakenly lumped in with Tourniquet. Including an obscene song title that is even now listed near the top of Tourniquet’s profile. And that’s not the first time they mixed artists together like that.

They seem to be gone now
