Favorite and least favorite genres

My favorite genres are all the thrash(thrash, speed, death) and my least favorite is probably Grindcore.

Favorites: Traditional, Power (US and Euro) and Thrash - as well as progressive forms of each.

Least: Metalcore, Grindcore, Deathcore, pretty much any "-core" actually. 

Some hardcore-ish type bands are pretty cool though (Pro-Pain, COC, Prong, Biohazard, Body Count, etc)

Oh and Drone sucks.

Favorite: doom/death but I love most everything doom, dark, dreary, atmospheric, dreamy, introspective, etc.

Also not a fan of the REALLY slow genres like stoner and funeral doom/metal.

Funeral doom is definitely an acquired taste!  These two songs were what got me into the genre in case you wanna ever give it another shot.

I don’t like anything super slow. At least not for a full album. Drone is just kinda stupid. It requires almost no musical talent.

People are still telling me that coffee is an acquired taste! I'm not sure if I can handle Funeral Doom!

Thrash is by far my fav. For least ig I'll go with drone, as Napalm Death is good enough to keep me from saying Grindcore

Faves:  Glam/hair metal, traditional, power

Can't stand:  Thrash and all extreme metal styles

My favorite would probably be well-executed combinations of several genres, like you see from bands like Adorned Graves and Biogenesis. Least favorite is probably grindcore and/or brutal death metal. Drone may be painfully boring, but grindcore/brutal death is much more actively unpleasant to listen to. You could get the same “musical” quality by recording burps and various pig noises over the sound of a malfunctioning car engine

If you mean these newer brutal death metal bands I would agree on most but old school brutal death metal like Suffocation, man I would disagree.

For the most part I agree. There’s one black album (The Forsaken by Antestor) that’s actually really good. I disagree about prog though. I love Dream Theater, some Theocracy is prog-y, Death - The Sound of Perseverance is ProgDeath. I don’t hate southern, but it’s not one of my favorites.

I do like Rush though, and Genesis.. But that's about it for me when it comes to prog. I've heard some people call Triumph prog, or that they have prog elements.. Either way, I love that band.

I don't know if I really have a favorite, but probably 80s/early 90s thrash or groove/alt.metal/crossover from that same era.  Bands with a unique vocalist you can immediately identify.  I haven't heard much in those styles that's great since then, though.

Least favorite would be prog/power with high or operatic vocals.  I'd rather be kicked in the nuts (which is what it sounds like happened to them too often).

Counting non-metal genres, then

Favorite: Thrash, death, symphonic, groove, nu... and then I also love classical music and many old hymns. Hebrew music is often really good. And then Over the Rhine, who isn't really one genre.

Least: Modern pop. 80's and 90's pop was good and catchy and stuff, newer pop is annoying and boring. And it makes me mad that it's so well-liked.

Favorite: folk, symphonic, neoclassical, traditional heavy and I'm sure I'm forgetting about another one... oh well
As for non-metal I love 70s prog, (neo) traditional country, southern rock, celtic folk music, classical music, 80s AOR

As for least favorite I have to join others in their dislike for the -core genres. But I don't spend time on listening to music I don't enjoy, so I can't say that there's a musical genre I hate. Except for maybe Dutch pop music...

Can get on board with the dislike for ska and Bob Dylan.
